DirecTV Fraud
I reactivated my DirecTV account 2 weeks ago. We decided it wasn't a fit for us and I called to cancel my service. I was told I agreed to a 12 month commitment and that early termination fees would apply. I specifically asked the agent at the time of activation if I was making any kind of commitment and was told NO.
DirecTV is misleading customers. The formal complaint process is just another calculated tactic. You have to mail in your disupute to the DirecTV/ATT legal department. What a waste of time and a terrible experience.
DirecTV should be ashamed!

AFAIK the only 1 year contract is for a move order, new receivers/account is a 2 yr contract, I haven't seen anything in the TOS about reactivating an account so unknown if that CSR was correct.

They'll go by whatever it states on the contract you agreed to when your service was activated.

How can a business bind a customer to a 12 month agreement that is in direct opposition to what was what communicated to them at the time of activation? Not to mention the fact that a contract was never discussed.

Good question. But it happens all too often. Some reps will promise the moon to make a sale. You can try complaining to the BBB and your local attorney general. Good luck.

DirecTV has called me today to reiterate that I willingly entered into a 12 month contract because I didn't respond to them within 24 hours of reactivating my services with them. This is a crazy deceptive practice. It's clearly a policy they have set in place to bind people into a long term financial commitment. It would be one thing if the representative I spoke to had not specifically told me I was NOT entering into a contract or agreement, however we specifically spoke about that and he told me I was NOT.
I'm so unhappy with how DirecTV has treated me.
