DirecTV not honoring price agreement

account # (Edited per community guidelines)

On 3/24/2022, I called in to loyalty, to set up another 12 month agreement for my DirecTV service. I spoke to "Akeilah". We agreed on $195.02/month for 12 months. I asked, and was specifically told, this amount included all fees and taxes. Confirmation code 4396360042A.

On the same date, I received an email from DirecTV, entitled Customer Service Inquiry, which stated a lower price, of $148.16/month. It further stated, this is the amount I could expect to see every month, and that this amount included all fees and taxes.

On 4/27/2022, I was surprised to be charged $205.76. I called in to billing, and spoke to Are, who after a very long conversation, told me, it was the result of discounts expiring. This was in spite of the fact, that I had entered into a new 12 month agreement. I asked for a supervisor, and was on hold for about 5 minutes, before she told me, it would take 30 to 60 minutes for the supervisor. I took this, as her means of getting rid of me, since my time is worth more than that. I ended the call.

I called back in to loyalty, and spoke with Elizabeth. After explaining the situation to her, and accusing the prior agents of lying, she said they did not lie, but it was not possible for them to give out an accurate price quote, because of how offers and discounts were continually changing. She said she could do nothing for me to correct the price, or refund the overpayment. She said lots of people have been having the same problem.

This is how a 26 year customer, who has been paying an average, of well over $100/month, gets treated.

I'm considering cancellation. I can get Dish Network, installed within a week, as they are working in neighboring homes.

I'm open to ideas. If I was a lawyer, I'd go after them. Since I'm not, it wouldn't pay, after legal fees.

If I was you I would stick with the Directv because if you just renewed a 12-month agreement with them if you cancel then they will charge you a cancelation fee and charge you for all the remaining months that you had in your agreement plus you will just have the same issues with DishNetwork although if you are looking for a cheaper option for watching tv when your 12-month agreement is up you could switch to Directv Stream it is cheaper then their Sat.

Appreciate your response. I will probably stay with them, as Dish doesn't have the same stations we like, even in their" Everything" package. Also, my wife has too much of a hard time, adjusting to new or different technology. As for the cancelation fee, I think I could beat it, on the grounds that DirecTV, breached the agreement, not me. I have written proof of what they agreed upon, and what they charged.

To be clear, there is never a price guarantee. The service agreement is only for the new promotion you're getting (new discounts for so many months). It does not guarantee total price, even before taxes. Any existing discounts still expire as normal.

The agent you spoke with should have clarified the amount of new discounts and reminded you about any that were expiring so you knew what to expect, if they were doing their job right. Personally I suggest to review your bill in detail before calling DirecTV so you understand how your current bill is to verify how it will actually work with any changes.

Agent messed up for sure. But that was regardless of your 26 years. That doesn't make you immune from any issues.

Also, prices are subject to change at any time per the Terms of Service (they don't own the channels after all or control taxes). So the email wouldn't be guaranteeing a total cost every month, but should give an expectation based on how it is currently set up.

DirecTV is dishonest. The email I received, specifically stated the amount I would be charged monthly, including fees and tax, was $148.16.

Unless they have recently changed those notifications, I wonder if that was a created one by a 3rd party. DirecTV has never guaranteed total cost including taxes. Only the bill itself shows the taxes. And total cost is a snapshot, so if that was before older discounts completed it would show lower than future bills once those discounts had rolled off.

DirecTV itself isn't dishonest. The agent you spoke with however was dishonest or at best did not set the right expectations by mistake.

Typical BS. Went thru that with att internet. Finally canceled them. And now with this direct-scream-bs , I am looking for another company. Or just might cancel all together. Enough is enough. I grew up where no one paid for tv. Now with new generations, the companies got away with charging. And now we are at the state of high prices and bleep for service and quality.

Free TV still exists. Just get an off-air antenna.

There is still over-the-air (OTA) TV, the free TV you speak of. The other providers (satellite, streaming, cable, etc.) were always pay TV providers.

It is your choice going with free or paid TV. Though it is an entertainment business, not something you are entitled to.

I had this same experience back 2015. In the end, they honored the price. The offer was $25 off 12 months. If you want advice, email me at (Edited per community guidelines)

A discount for 12 or 24 months is something DirecTV might be able to do. But there is no such thing as a total price guarantee with them, never has been. Even with a discount, the base price can change per the Terms of Service. Per increasing costs from the networks, price goes up over the years and a discount does not make you immune. Thankfully it is only with the annual price adjustment, so can at least be prepared for.
