DirecTV/CenturyLink is taking advantage of my Grandfather
My Grandfather just showed me an invoice that he just received from DirecTV/CenturyLink in the amount of $3,393.80. It has an itemized list of charges. Here's this completely ridiculous list of trumped up charges: 1. Long Distance - $208.07
2. Optional Services (What the (Edited per community guidelines) is an optional service by the way?) - $416.61
3. Internet - $373.63
4. DirecTV (The biggest, most underhanded, unscrupulous, offensive, dishonest charge of them all) - $1700.28
5. Prism - $46.88
6. Local Services $646.33 (Just what is considered to be a "local" service?)
This is a con job. You're ripping off my Grandfather who is not familiar with any of what DirecTV is charging him outside of the original plan he established years ago. This will not fly.
It's unacceptable and immoral. You see, DirecTV, this is why people are leaving your company and companies within your industry in droves. It's sick and disgusting. We'll take legal action if need be. Your company should be ashamed, but knowing how most companies operate, there is no moral compass. The only concern is profit by any means.

What span of time is the billing for? One month? 6 months?

It's says it's monthly. He has never missed a payment. I've seen it fluctuate. It's basically become whatever they want to charge him. The contract is convoluted, especially to a man that is not familiar with all that contractual jargon.

I can't speak to the non DirecTV charges, bit the DirecTV part is extremely high for one month. What package does he have and how many and what type of receivers?

The DirecTV portion by itself is extremely high. If it is not itemized on the CenturyLink bill, then you will need to call DirecTV to discuss those details. Part of the reason I avoid combined billing is because very minimal info shows on the partnered bill (CenturyLink in this case). Based on that amount one-time charges (equipment, PPVs, etc.) are likely the culprit.
Another concern I see is Prism. To my understanding that is the name of CenturyLink's own TV service. Unlikely, though not impossible, to have 2 full TV services at the same time.
This is not DirecTV or CenturyLink taking advantage. Either there is a big billing issue, or an individual agent is at fault. Sorry but 'we' are not doing anything to you or your grandfather as we are other customers. This is a public forum, not customer support. You have to call to talk with DirecTV.
