Early termination due to move
I need to end my service with DIRECTV. My roommate moved out early and I am left with the contract and now I have to move out. I am moving into an over 55 community. The only provider they offer is Xfinity. Therefore I cannot take my DIRECTV service with me.
They tell me I have to pay approximately $280 for the rest of my contract. I cannot do that I’m 75 years old. I do not have that type of money to throw away. I spoke to a supervisor he was a pompous you know what! Very unprofessional.

You agreed to a contract when you signed up, so given that you want to cancel prior to the end of the 2 year contract, you will be charged an early termination fee of $20/month for every month left on the contract. This contract is mainly to cover costs for DIRECTV installation along with technician services, and serves as the primary business model for DIRECTV.
Simply put, you must pay it to cancel your service.

DirecTV (satellite service) has a 24 month service agreement.
The new DirecTV by Internet (a streaming-only option) has a 24 month agreement because of the provided equipment.
You agreed to it when you signed up for service. Unfortunately moving does not waive the early cancellation fee (ECF). That was the risk of getting a contractual service when you were depending on a roommate to help.
If you have a streaming-only service then as long as you have internet you can take it with you. They don't care who your internet company is.
Being 75 doesn't mean you aren't accountable for what you agreed to. Just a fact of life.
