Fraud Account Opened in my Name Sent to Collections

Contact law enforcement. Identity theft is rampant. 

If this was a DirecTV account (as opposed to other AT&T services) then you file a dispute with their identity theft team. www.directv.com/notmyaccount

Since it was sent to collections, you usually have to dispute with them separately.

I would also contact law enforcement on filing a report for identity theft as this is a huge issue right now, only gotten worse since Covid. Make sure you keep an eye on your other accounts, credit report, and consider changing security information (passwords, etc.) to prevent further impact.

We received a debt collection notice from I.C. System Inc. saying we owed $761.64 on an account that is not ours.  It has the wrong name, wrong phone number, wrong email.  This was on account number 302039532.  We have not used Direct TV for so many years we can't even remember when we had them.  All of our debts are in my husband's name, not mine.  We never received anything from DirectTV about an outstanding bill.

If the debt collection notice was sent to either you or your husband, dispute at www.directv.com/notmyaccount which starts the ball rolling with their identity theft team.

However, if notice was sent to your address but not in either of your names, then treat as mail sent to wrong address as has nothing to do with you.
