Fraudulent account

Went to add a phone line to my at$t account in October couldn’t do it bc they said we had an outstanding balance on our directv account which is absolutely not the case directv is on autopay every month. We found out they had linked an old bill of my fiancés fathers to our account, my fiancé is a Jr even our bill clearly states he’s a jr and I have filed multiple fraud complaints spent HOURS AND HOURS on the phone with AT&T and directv for no one to fix THEIR MISTAKE!!! Just wondering if anyone has any advice. TIA!

If accounts are in your fiancé's and his father's name respectfully where there name is only differentiated by the suffix Jr., then I would submit this to their Fraud/Identity Theft Team. Though it is not specifically that high an issue, as sounds like just a simple mismatch, they should be the ones to fix it.

That department has more traditional business hours, so I wouldn't expect them to be open today, but they have a webform to get the ball rolling at least.

Apparently it’s a much bigger deal to them bc I honestly have been saying the same thing from the beginning. I have filled out that form you attached multiple times, sent in pictures of drivers license, our directv bill that we get every month stating he’s the “jr” and unfortunately none of this has gotten me anywhere. Thank you though!!

I guess I shouldn’t say it’s a big deal to them bc clearly it’s not we’ve been going rounds for months and I’m beyond irritated with it. It’s not on my fiancés credit report luckily so I would think it would have been as easy as removing the account 🤦🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️

So if already submitted to that department months ago, then I would do a BBB complaint. This sends the problem to the corporate level.

As DirecTV accounts are opened with the SSN, one would think this would be a rather simple fix. I could understand a bit of a delay just because the pandemic slowed everything down, but since October goes well beyond that. The BBB is the route to go to now. Good luck.
