Genie DVR in out building?
I have an outbuilding on my property that houses my workshop and a "man cave" of sorts. I cannot get my genie signal to the outbuilding to use a genie mini.
Can I put a dish on the building and activate a HR54 DVR on my account? I have a HR54 and 2 minis in my house.
Thanks

DirecTV only allows one main "Genie" on the account. So you could not activate a 2nd HR54.
You can still do the 2nd dish with a regular HDDVR or HD non-DVR. Last models made were HR24 and H25 respectively. You just pay monthly the the $7 additional TV fee (if you are adding one more TV total, not relocating an existing one) as on the same account. But they would not share Whole Home DVR with your home as physically separate setups. The dish itself and install would be at your cost though since that would be custom work.
Depending on distance of the outbuilding, another option is having coax run to it so they could be on the same network to share recordings. Only uses this option if not too far and the coax can be protected. Otherwise the 2nd dish option is the safer way to go.
HDDVRs are getting harder to obtain. But if you can get more, I would replace your Mini Genies as you gain 2 tuners, 500GB recording space per box and you don't have to worry about being reliant on a single box to work. Though only Mini Genie Clients have wireless or 4K lines (C41W, C61W and the C61K).

You could Add a HD receiver (to your existing account) or just run an RG6 from your current SWIM block (where your rg6 connects to the hr54 and the sat dish Downlead) to your outbuilding and use a wired mini.

To answer your specific question ....
No, you cannot add a second HR54 Genie DVR to your account. DirecTV only allows one per account.
