How do I reconnect my DIRECTV service?

I stopped my service and want to restart. Keep getting transferred to reps who can't help. They read my balance off and only want that paid. I wasn't in contract and shouldn't have to pay for services not used.

Like most companies, DirecTV will not restart your service while there is an outstanding balance. They do not ignore your past due. Your refusal to pay your bill is why you cannot restart service. If there is an actually billing error, then you discuss that with them to see about correcting first. Bill dispute does not waive the outstanding balance unless resolved in your favor. If on the other hand you are only disputing paying for days you didn't personally use, and canceled earlier this year, that is not a billing error.

If you canceled your account this year (2019), then sorry but you will pay for the full service month even if you didn't use it. Their Terms of Service updated, so now final bills no longer prorate. You are billed the full service month, so suggested not to cancel until the last day of service month so you get the full service you are billed for. Here is the notice sent November 2018 regarding this update that applies to all of us:

Please read this if you receive DIRECTV, AT&T U-verse® TV, AT&T Internet, AT&T Phone, and/or AT&T Fixed Wireless service(s). We want to remind you that you’re billed in advance for recurring service(s) and/or programming charges and applicable fees based on the terms of your current service agreement(s) with us. Starting January 14, 2019, subject to applicable laws, we’re updating your agreement(s) to include your recurring service(s)/programming charges and fees won’t be prorated if you cancel the above service(s) on any day other than the last day of your billing cycle. Your service(s) will continue until the end of your billing cycle but you won’t get a refund (prorated credits) for any remaining days left in your billing cycle. For products not listed above, refer to their terms of service for more information.

Questions about this change? Go to att.com/ProrationPolicy for more information and to see the revised section of your service agreement(s).

Until you pay your balance the service can't be restarted.
