How long will it take to get my father’s refund

(Edited per community guidelines) my father is 80 years old, his memory isn’t good at all!! A little over a year ago he wanted to get direcTV so they came to hook up connection but where my father live it wasn’t any so my father thought they could close out the account. THEY DIDN’T!! For over a year now they’ve been taking $180 a month out his bank account, I took over my father’s afar. That’s how I found out they had been taking money, last month in April I called to see what’s was goin on. They I spoke to told me my father wasn’t getting any of his money back even tho is shows he’s never used the account, that’s over $2000. So I said cut the account off so they want take any more money out his account, the guy tells me they are still goin to charge my father the next month but will cut off service. Today May 29th I check my father’s account again & more money has been taken out so I on the phone with someone now while I’m writing this. The person I’m on the phone with now is VERY helpful & I’m thankful for him but he said he can only give back four months of the money they STOLE out his account. I think I’m goin to have to sue them for the rest of the money. So the refund he gets back is $900 but they STOLE over $2000!! When will the $900 be in the bank? & if anyone can help or give ideas on how to get the rest of the money back it would help a lot or I will just sue

The tech can only close the work order with a no line of sight noted they can't cancel the order, your father needed to call to cancel it.  It appears that it was not noted that way as that is the only way DTV can charge you.  DTV only gives you 60 days to correct billing errors.  You are limited to binding arbitration.

Your best bet would be to file a BBB ( Better Business Bureau) complaint to see about getting any more refunds for your father as this complaint goes to the corporate offices and you should be contacted to try to resolve this issue.  As no services were installed you would have a very valid complaint.  As for when they will refund the money most businesses usually refund between 5-14 business days.

The other poster was not wrong. The Terms of Service has a 60 day billing dispute clause. Customer must call DirecTV to cancel the account, as tech cannot do that for them.

Issue is that it has been over a year. If your father's mental state is such he is no longer able to handle such situations himself, then someone needs to be appointed to do so on his behalf (such as through Power of Attorney). Even with PoA, changes need to be done in a timely manner.

If the Movers work order was closed for No Line of Sight (NLoS), then that gives you a higher chance. Though over the phone it has been too long, perhaps a BBB complaint to get corporate eyes on this is all it needs. If that doesn't work, then yes you are not allowed to sue but must use arbitration, per the clause in the Terms of Service (ToS).

As a note, no DirecTV agent can see his usage. Satellite service is one-way and is subscription based. They have no idea what he watches or how often. Monthly bill goes out, he pays. If any PPVs are ordered then that goes to billing of course (order by remote if internet connected), but how often channels in the package are watched would have nothing to do with billing. So all that agent could do is see no PPVs ordered. Saying account not used was either a flat out lie, or they meant he didn't order any PPVs.
