How to lower bill or cancel service without having to talk to 6 different people and then get a "Dropped call"
Tried to go into att and get my bill lowered, the lady was really nice and said that direct tv took that feature out of the store level it is all over the phone now. So I call Direct Tv to see how to lower my bill, I am way past the 2 year contract so I should qualify for a new promotion, first guy said no promotions he can do at this time so he would have to push my call up the chain. Second guy said you do not qualify for any promotions at this time, so I tell him I guess I will be leaving direct tv. He immediately tells me to hold. I wait for another lady to come on tell her the scoop of what I am trying to accomplish, she tells me she can not hear me and that she would have to transfer me. I get another lady on the phone she is really hard to understand and did not understand what I was trying to do, so she transfers me to the last lady who proceeds to start helping but then when I tell her if she cannot lower my bill i will have to cancel my service, she all of the sudden hangs up without any help. I have looked online for cancel my service but there is not a place to do so.

Call DirecTV and when you get the voice system say "cancel". That should route you to the retention/cancellation department. They can assist with regular support, such as reducing service to lower costs going forward, in addition to closing out the account.
Their CEO had announced months ago that promotions would be pulled back. Too many customers at risk of operating at a loss (and some that are). DirecTV is a business, so cannot be charitable and give away service for less than what it costs. So if you cannot afford without discounts, then it is up to you to reduce service until within budget.
Discounts are a temporary perk and not guaranteed to always be available. Always plan for full cost, regardless of how far you are past your last contract or start of service.

AT&T stores never could do anything to an existing DTV account, they can only send new customer orders to DTV.
