Lack of full disclosure

I would NOT recommend Directv to anyone. First of all they are sneaky and do not fully disclose information. 1) when I inquired about  cable services the sales people sold me on a promotion so I agreed. What was not disclosed to me about the deal while I was on the phone with the sales representative was that this promo would include a 18 month contract! Now it may have been in the fine print yes… HOWEVER this is not doing finesse business! The information should have been verbally discussed and agreed upon during the sales call! It’s like lying by omission! 2) 3 months into my service (keep in mind I’m not aware of this contract that I’m now in) I had not really been utilizing my cable as I thought I would and decided I should go and cancel it and save my money… welll…. I call to cancel service and speak to someone who was very nice and said Listen, there’s nothing wrong with the service. I’m just not using it as much as I thought I would I’d like to cancel. the representative says OK sounds good. You’ll have service up until the first of the month and then it will be canceled from there on out well a week later I get a bill for $500 for cancellation fee!!! Again!!!! This is lying by omission! This should have disclosed to me when I was on the phone with the person canceling the services! they do bad business and are not honest. Look for a better company

DTV is not a cable company and new customers have always had a 2 yr. contract. If you where 3 months into the contract then the ETF/ECF should be $420 as DTV charges $20 per unused month with the max being $480. DTV doesn't know if you are using it or not so long as the account is open you will be charged.

Well done! Way to take accountability and work on the real problem! Again, prime example of the type of people we are talking about running the company!

This is a customer to customer forum, the few employees on here have that fact stated in a box similar to the ACE box.

DirecTV is a satellite TV provider, not cable, though both are pay TV.

All customers start with a 24 month agreement (there is no 18 month agreement). Yes this should be disclosed by any sales agent. But for protection of DirecTV and customers, it is listed on all advertisements, the order confirmation emailed when you request service, and the handheld you sign with tech on-site for install. So there are multiple ways you would be informed of the agreement.

Cancellation fee is valued at $20 for each month remaining of your agreement. Even canceling within the first month it cannot be $500. So there is more on your bill than just the ECF. Your bill will be itemized so you know what other chargers there are.

Regardless of the initial sales agent, it sounds like with starting service and canceling that you either haven't bothered to read anything or have greatly misunderstood what you've read as service starts with an agreement (which is not 18 months), and cancellation fee is impossible to be $500.

And further, your claim of how we "take accountability" or are "running the company" misses some key info. This is a public customer to customer forum, which you are reminded of in the signature of our posts (had you bothered to read it or anything about the forum when you created your account). We do not run the company any more than you do.

Certainly no excuse for the sales agent if they didn't properly inform you. But you would do well to protect yourself by reading the documentation.
