My Contract Was Extended Without my Knowledge
In July 2017 I paid ATT/Directv $250.00 NON refundable deposit just to use their company. I was put on the Triple Play Plan without any issues after payment. I had the initial installation guy install 2 receivers in my home. We had just moved and we didn't have a TV in the 3rd bedroom. I was told my package come with - up to- 5 receivers before I would be charged additionally. Later in my contract I wanted to add the 3rd receiver to my bedroom. They wanted to charge me an additional 99.00 to install. After the initial installment charges at the beginning and a 250.00 NON refundable deposit. So basically, at this point, I'm just giving this company money. I told them I would not pay the 99.00 installation as it should have been part of my contract. They waived the cost. Now my contract is up. They decided to extend my contract for another YEAR because I got another receiver in my house. I am not surprised this company has not been charged with theft. First of all, (1) receiver's cost does not add up to another year service. Secondly, this receiver should have been part of my contract to begin with. I've paid 130.00 for initial installation fees, gave them 250.00 just to sign up, and now my contract is extended for another year. This company is so desperate to keep their customers they are willing to forge contract and trap their customers. Absolutely ridiculous.

It's up to 4 receivers at TIME of install not after. so if you have less than that installed and then LATER want an additional receiver added then there is a charge for that receiver and an additional commitment time.

Then the technician should have just installed it then. He was the one that told me to just wait and I wouldnt have any issues with getting another one later. This is unbelievable. This is ridiculous. You guys should be ashamed of how you treat your customers. Not to mention, now I am stuck with this crappy company for another year because of some hidden agenda on your part. Or I can pay 800.00 to get out of it. Nice way to have a satisfied customer NEVER come back and NEVER recommend this company. BAD BUSINESSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Tech can only install what is on the order, and only if the TV is there. They are required to make sure it is working and the correct connections for the TV (length of cable, if it needs HDMI, A/V, or old RF modulator). The tech advising you could call later should have at least said it might be at a cost if before your account would qualify for a free upgrade. Though tech may not guarantee exact costs, they should have set the correct expectation. Since the alternative would be stopping the install and rescheduling for when you were ready for the full install, the tech probably didn't want to lose pay for a closed appointment.
It would not cost $800 to cancel DirecTV. The early cancellation fee (ECF) is worth $20 for each month remaining on your service agreement. So if 12 months left it would a $240 ECF. DirecTV's service agreement is for the account, not a separate one per box like some other service companies. Difference being that other services like cell phones you can transfer individual lines, but DirecTV has no change of responsibility option.
