Nexstar Negotiations
I am very angry that my local Fox station, WGHP TV FOX 8, has been removed and cannot be viewed at this time. This station is my favorite local station for local news and sports programming. I have been a loyal Directv customer for a number of years but I do have other options in my area and some much cheaper. If this is not cleared up soon I will go to another provider. I have been.very satisfied with your service even recommended your service. However right now I am angry. Also I was really looking forward to watching the MLB All-Star game in a week. If it appears this problem is not going to be worked out by then I will change to another provider. This is not fair to your customers. All it comes down to is money, more money for you. I do expect a response from you and for the sake of your service to your customers this problem should be resolved immediately. I also think you owe your customers a refund for everyday our favorite station is off the air.

It works in a channel owner's advantage when their carriage agreement ends close to (or even during) the time for major sporting events. This allows them to try and use us customers as leverage that much more.
You say there is no excuse for DirecTV's position. So you are ok with just giving into the higher rates? Remember when operating costs go up so do our bills. They go up enough as it is with costs increases from different networks. I don't want my channels that are free over the regular airways, or in some cases locals that aren't even mine, to add that much more to my bills.
I would love it if locals were itemized in cost to each area, perhaps even becoming an optional add-on again (like when first available to DirecTV). That way when locals pulled the feed it only affects those that receive them and the costs for specific areas were more transparent. Curious what others reactions would be to that situation.
And in case you weren't aware, no TV provider is immune from this situation. They all go through carriage negotiations. Nexstar has done this before. This is just DirecTV's turn.

I think this says it all.
https://cordcuttersnews.com/how-long-will-the-directv-nexstar-blackout-last-everything-we-know/
It makes no sense why Directv according to the above article would not extend the current contract to Oct 31. I don't know the details but it appears Directv has lost its mind at the expense of its customers. Granted these types of situations could happen to any content provider, but good providers find ways to mitigate issues.
And someone's comment about DTV passing costs on to customers is annoying. There is a point where customers have to decide cost vs value. Comcast certainly has the power with their large internet services base to control cost. They also carried the Pac 12 network, etc, Directv not, and now DTV with no NFL.
Maybe DTV needs to get rid all the junk channels that no one watches, and focus on fair priced packages that people will buy?????????
I pay thousands a year for about 20 channels, with my 4 TV's, recording features, and all my equipment I continue to stay with with DTV.
This really annoys me.

@rlmyers DIrectv DOES have the NFL Network and the NFL Red Zone. They may have lost the NFL Sunday Ticket but you can still watch football even without the locals right now with the NFL Network Channels. I know it is not the same and totaly understand your point but hopefully they will have it back soon, so that not to many games are missed this NFL season.

You can get the discount at www.directv.com/tvpromise I know that they do not play locals sometimes they play the rerun of the game the next day on the NFL channels though. I know it is not the same as watching it live but it is better than not having anything. I also agree the $10 is trivial but it is better than nothing. I also tried an over-the-air-antenna and I live in a location that I recieve nothing no matter how far the anttena clames to be able to recieve a signal for. So I understand what you are going through it is frustrating but depending on how many locals you are missing you could see about streaming options. I am only missing CBS so I decied to subscribe to Paramount+ so that I could continue to watch my shows and NFL games. I myself do not blame Directv I blame Nexstar as they could have left the channels avaiable to customers while they nogotiated but they decided to pull them from Directv. Directv had no say in the matter.

@rlmyers DTV and Dish didn't accept the offer because that date is in the middle of football season and everyone would complain even more then now.

Call directv and ask for the loyalty department. They will give you a new deal and a better price than you are paying now. If you're not happy with what you are paying.

The "loyalty" department is just another name for retention/cancellation. They will discuss what they can do to try and retain your business if you are considering cancelling, but there is no guarantee that they will give you a new deal/better price. Sometimes discounts are not available.
In either case, that is unrelated to this thread which is about Nexstar owned channels that are not available right now because they and DirecTV are negotiating the next carriage agreement.

I did not say don't ask. I was merely giving a realistic expectation. My suggestion is don't make guarantees/promises you have no way to honor.
Certainly if you call to discuss options to reduce your monthly bill ask what is available. Just be prepared there might not be any and even if there are they are temporary perks. In the end it is our (the consumer) responsibility to manage our finances. If you're not happy with your bill then first and foremost reduce service to within your comfortable budget as that would be your long term savings.
But I fear this is straying to far from the topic at hand as this thread is about Nexstar.

I don't recall giving any guarantee....I simply said call and ask. If people are going to complain about prices going up, then change providers. I am not saying don't way your options, but when Fox was canceled, I called and got an extra $20 off per month for 12 months, and that was on top of the $55 that I was already getting off for 12 months. So... do nothing get charged more or call and see what they may be able to give you!

You said "will give a better deal and price". Key difference between "will" and "might".
Getting $20 off for a year is a nice discount they have had in the past. Was what your account qualified for, wouldn't be for a channel negotiation with your local Fox affiliate (as that discount was certainly more than the value of the channel).
As for $55 off, that is crazy lucky. But that is what they are addressing now as they did a financial review that too much was given out in discounts. And discounts that are more than a couple packages is certainly too much. So they announce those discounts would be pulled back. Sounds like they might be back here and there, but are expected to be in moderation now so they don't create problem accounts again.
I do not discourage anyone from calling and discussing their options. Just do not call and expect you are going to have money thrown at you (excessive discounts). Just be prepared, that is all. And no need to keep shouting.

Fox lost and paid a 787 million dollar law suit. You don't expect them to pay do you? Next law suit is for 2.2 billion I believe and they will probably lose this lawsuit also. Fox is trying to raise its monthly rate to over 3$ per customer. Fox was and is already the highest paid channel by far And over 3$ will be a huge raise for Fox. Nexstar I believe handles negotiations for Fox and many other channels and has pulled or threatened to pull all of its channels to force the cable/communication companies to pay the major rate hike. The rates hikes will be passed on to you and it won't matter which company you switch too because they are all coming up for contract negotiations over the next year. Don't think 20$ increase, start thinking double your bill in my opinion if nexstar gets all it wants for all it's channels. ... I would like to know how much Fox did get? I don't want to be paying for their errors in judgement.

Nexstar does not handle negotiations for Fox. They are a local affiliate station owner. Some of their channels are affiliates for Fox, but they have affiliate stations for other major networks. They don't handle the negotiations for stations owned by the network itself (such as Fox). Those negotiations would be the TV provider and network owner directly.
