It shouldn't be this difficult to receive a refunt/credit after 8 months.

If it has been 8 months, that says no refund is coming.
As DirecTV no longer prorates the final bill (as of 2019), it is extremely rare for a refund to exist anymore. So what happened that you are expecting a refund?
