RV options
On 04/28/20, I received a email stating the NY/CA local channels options for RV travelers will be discounted June 1, 2020. What are the options for those of us living in RVs who want to receive the major networks?

Going back to this, even now Dec 2021, DIRECTV is still sending the LA & NYC Net channels, 590-599.
If they are there, what are they for??? Who can receive them? If RV licensed Recv can’t, who could? Guam, Pacific Territories??
I for one am totally confused…
I still receive NBC & FOX E & W, notably I’m in the NYC DMA so the East channels are a given.
Please explain to me what the (Edited per community guidelines) is the rule?

The FCC allowed the act to expired that gave DTV and other providers use of the DNS channels that the major networks use to feed their affiliate channels.

Yes we understand that but they still send the LA and NYC feeds on 390-399, why?
if the law(?, written by small local stations, who aren’t so small nor local) denies access, why have the signal sent on the national bird?
I still think it maybe one of the dumbest approaches to saving “local tv”. 99.99% of people watch local stuff on their local station (or what Nielsen has determined is local). People that willingly pay for and watch the national feeds have reasons, not to circumvent the local broadcaster. My situation was I worked for years in NYC, and Los Angeles. It was great to get info from both locals. Now I am retired and due to Covid I haven’t been back and forth like I used to but it’s still good to keep up.
the fact that I’m allowed KNBC and KTTV shows me that something isn’t all up and up about all of this!
I’d like to know who are “legally” allowed to receive all 5 (Including the DC and LA WB Network or whatever it’s called these days?) ?
thanks

The locals lobbied Congress to have the Stellar Act expire. They won, restricting locals to their respective Designated Market Areas (DMAs).
I recall DirecTV having a Travelers Package specifically for mobile options (such as using exclusively in an RV). This was completely separate from a residential account. It would make sense that those DNS/out-of-area channels would be available for that setup. This is merely a possibility I have considered as I do not know if that is actually the case.
Knowing how exactly one could currently obtain those channels, or even just clarifying if it might be some special grandfathered option, would greatly be appreciated as that was one of the more confusing changes in recent years.

That’s exactly it. They actually notified RV accts that they were not “able” (keyword) to send the signal anymore.
so I again repeat, why and/or who are the channels for?
I was grandfathered (or so I thought) going all the way back before Direct had locals, through Prime24. Yes that long ago! Even when the first Stella/Stellar law was passed I was grandfathered the West Coast channels (I live in suburban NYC, so…). I’d just love to know what or who are these channels available to?
