SCAM CALL REGARDING REPLACING DIRECT TV ROUTERS
I received a telephone from "DirectTV Technical Center for Laguna Niguel, California". Caller name is Jack Anderson, phone number (Edited per community guidelines). Caller said my Dircet TV router must be replaced or my service will be disconnected. I would be charged $2.00 for shipping two new routers.
Caller may have breached Direct TV data system, sine Caller had my name, my Direct TV account number, telephone number & address. Caller wanted my Social Security Number & a credit card number.
I called Direct TV @(Edited per community guidelines) to verify that no router upgrade is planned,& I was advised to report this scam to your fraud department.

Plus DTV doesn't use routers those are for use with internet. You would be surprise to find all that info on the dark web due to all the data hacks.
This is a customer to customer forum with no access to any accounts so we don't have a fraud department.
DTVs number is 1-800-531-5000.

DirecTV does not call you to proactively replace equipment.
There is no such thing as a DirecTV router. They are not an internet provider.
Unfortunately, the "dark web" has a lot of data out there for someone to pretend to be from another company. Only a little info is needed and then social engineering can trip you to giving up more info yourself while thinking they already had it.
DirecTV is in the process of shutting down their MPEG-2/SD-only feeds. That means any boxes that model starts D or R, including older models, should be replaced in the near future (except R22 in special setups). Affected customers should be notified by bill insert, email, or DirecTV on-screen message which all would direct you to call DirecTV's official number (so you know you actually are speaking with them).
For more info about fraud/phishing concerns or to report one received, you can check DirecTV's official support page: https://www.directv.com/fraud
