Scam

I received a call I think is a scam.  He said he was from Att Directv and Directv was going to increase the signal in my area to prevent outages during storms.  He then told me to hold down the info button on my remote and read him the info.  I told him if he was from ATT he should already have that info and he should contact me by mail or email if he had any more questions I was not going to give him any info over the phone.  Could this call have been legimate or is it a scam?

Yes it was a scam the FCC set the power level of the transponders on the sats and they are the only ones that can increase it and it wouldn't need any actions from the customer if they did.

Definitely a scam but I’m wondering what the scam is? Holding down the info key brings up your receiver and access card info. I’m guessing the access card id is what they were after but what could they do with that?

I assume they are marking people that give out their info as easy marks for other scams that gets them money and they can also sell the list to others.

An account can be looked up by the rid and access card info.
