You can suspend service up to 6 months within a 12 month period ($7 monthly vacation hold). But balance must be paid to $0 (or be on auto bill pay) first. They will not suspend an account that is not current on the bill.
Call DirecTV and see about possibly setting up a payment arrangement that gives you so many additional days to pay the current bill before they do a past due interruption. Once your account balance is completely paid, then see about suspending.

You have to call DTV to suspend your account for up to 6 months per year with a $7.00 per month fee. You can also setup a payment plan.
