Taking Advantage of Elderly People
BOYCOT DIRECT TV! My mother cancelled her account in November of 2019 and Direct TV confirmed the account cancellation on Dec 6th 2019. Direct TV still continued to take the monthly bill out my mother's account until September 2020. After several calls and confirmation that a refund of the funds was owed it is December 2020 and Direct TV still has not issued refund. They are taking advantage of elderly people and not keeping their word to refund even after multiple calls and confirmation numbers given. SCAM ARTISTS! Just today I have been on the phone for over 2hrs from the customer service rep to say we must speak to the speak Direct TV rep that confirmed the refund. WHAT?! In a company of hundreds of customer service reps you must speak to the one I originally spoke to months ago when the records are right in front of you. This is outrageous and POOR customer service. DON'T GET DIRECTV!!!! RUN!!!

File a complaint with the BBB. That being said, refunds are limited to 60 (maybe 90) days.

There is no option to speak to a specific agent. You get the next one available when you calls. So the agent saying you had to speak to a prior agent was very wrong.
A key question is has your mother been disputing the bill through that entire time, or did she only notice in Sept 2020? This matters as DirecTV has a 60 day dispute policy. Like most companies, they require notice of a bill issue within a reasonable time. If no contact was made for almost a year, then to the company that is saying the service was still wanted.
Call DirecTV and when you get the voice system say "cancel". That routes you to a cancellation/retention agent who is usually more experienced. You can even request to speak to one of their supervisors. They must review the account and if there is any billing error they verify then they credit accordingly. Only then can they do a refund request, as there must be something to refund.
After that if still unresolved, the final step would be a BBB/FCC complaint to try and resolve in your favor.
