Unhappy with their service

AT&T overcharges and is overpriced.  They do not provide the best in Internet speed service.  They recently charged my mother for switching to Direct TV and told her she would not be penalized for the move because her contract was up.  However, she gets billed for $85 after paying last months bill.  She spoke with a customer service representative and explained the situation and they said "Sorry Ma'am, you will still need to pay".   And my mother in law is not at all happy with their dishonesty and half truths they share with us when spoken to.  Very disappointed. And will discourage anyone who wants to move to AT&T.

This is the satellite forum, not for any of the other ATT services. You don't get charged by directv for switching. My guess is that your mother got charged for the last month of her previous service because she was already into the month before cancelling, but without more info it's difficult to know. Which service was that?  And what relevance has the ATT internet service to any of this?

DirecTV does not pay the early cancellation fee (ECF) for another TV service, not even if that one was AT&T owned. They are different service providers with separate contracts that have nothing to do with each other.

Also like other companies, AT&T does not prorate the service. So if she started DirecTV in the middle of her other TV service's bill cycle, she is not credited for unused days. They don't prorate the final bill.

The situation you describe is not unique to AT&T. All providers (TV or otherwise) deal with agents who don't give the best info when making a sale. So instead I would encourage everyone to read their paperwork and Terms of Service, no matter what an agent "promises".

same with you. told my wife they'd take off the regional sports fee. crediting the account 11.17 now they won't honor that.

They can't take it off, it's part of the package, whether you watch the channels or not.. Directv gets charged this fee for the RSNs, it's mandatory. Whoever told your wife it would be removed was completely wrong.

yes they were. but it should be removed since that employee told her it would. Not our fault that employee lied. and told us it would be remeoved  forever and our account would be credited 11.17. But no Direct tv still expects us to pay.

Sorry but the fee should not be removed simply because an agent quoted wrong. If an agent promised no tax or that you would get a free car it would be no different. The leagues and teams charge based on the local teams for your area. Used to be it was hidden in the package cost, which is how other providers still do it, but DirecTV separated it out so it is now transparent. Plus it is not flat across the board so you can see exactly what the cost is for your teams.

Agent saying it would be credited was certainly in the wrong, but that doesn't change that the fee is mandatory if you are in a package that receives RSNs. To get rid of the fee you would need to lower to Entertainment, Select, or Family.

Bottom line is a false promise by an agent doesn't mean the company can or will honor it. Otherwise agents could promise the world without consequence.

may not be removed. but they could credit it to the account every month like they do their customer loyalty discount. which i won't be much longer.

of course not cause Direct TV isn't a man of the word like i am. My word Means Something. Something a direct TV agent tells ya doesn't mean anything. holds no values. where their facebook is filled with negative comments about them. they don't care whats been told to the customers or customer service. only about money

Discounts are not permanent, those run out. And much of that has been pulled back because of too much given out in the past resulting in some customers hemorrhaging the business.

Perhaps they could as a courtesy provide a small discount for so many months for the inconvenience, but they are not required to. And if even if they can do that, it would not be forever.

To expect that all humans are infallible and must follow what they say to the letter, no matter how wrong they are, is not a realistic expectation. So if an agent on a bad day would say you get a free car and you would expect AT&T to honor that?

DirecTV has values and should hold that agent accountable for the misinformation. That doesn't mean you get a promotion that didn't exist in the first place. Welcome to reality.

It appears at this point that nothing will suffice short of them changing reality to suit you based on incorrect information from an agent. So perhaps you should cancel as you've been mentioning for the last year.
