upgrade and security pin

Been trying on several occasions to upgrade my account but everytime I call, the person always asks for a security pin to make sure I'm who I say I am. Now I have NEVER had a pin that I am aware of. After several attempts and getting the runaround, I end up so frustrated I hang up the phone. I have looked through my paperwork  and cannot find any info about a pin number. So do I cancel AT&T/Directv and reopen an account and start from scratch to get this infamous pin? I've asked for a 'higher up' person/manager to speak with but they will not transfer my call.

go into a corporate store they can verify your identity and reset your pin

Thank you for your response but I was already told to do that and the nearest store is 2 hours away. I should not have to drive that far to handle this. Any other suggestions?

not really, the pin is there for your security so other than a face to face they have no way to confirm. every account when started you are asked to provide a 4 digit pin that they put on your account.

I’ve had this account for so many years and whenever I’ve needed something I was never asked for a pin until this year. I have no clue what it is.

The 4 digit PIN is new. Was added as part of the acquisition by AT&T. Before that you had the option to put a password on the account, but wasn't mandatory. Comes down to AT&T does lean towards account security over customer convenience. Wish there could be a better balance on that. Unfortunately going to a corporate store to reset the PIN is the option for when you don't know it.

Though the PIN shouldn't have been automatically set. Should have been something you were prompted to setup when you called them at some point. So if someone plugged one in without informing you, that would be an issue that should be submitted in a complaint.
