Hey @ATuckerTX. Great to know you are upgrading your equipment. Give us the chance to check how the changes will be affecting your bill.
Let's meet in a Direct Message to take a closer look on this. Please check your DIRECTV Message Inbox (It's the chat icon next to the bell icon in the upper right corner of the Forums)
HR34 to HR44 is like-for-like. They are both Genie. A warranty replacement of the HR34 would get either HR44 or HR54 depending on stock. It is not an upgrade as orders go, but there was a big improvement over that 1st generation Genie.
If you placed an upgrade order, then cancel it. First of all you cannot choose a model number, it is what is next available on the shelf. Second, an upgrade comes with a 24 month agreement. But if you order a warranty replacement, say because your HR34 no longer powers on, then no new service agreement.
As a note, the HR34 is the last box to support Caller ID on TV. The HR44 has the phone jack, but the GUI software update removes the menu option for the feature. It is outdated, no longer supports DirecTV, less and less compatible with phone systems, just left to run as-is in the old software until it completely broke.
Like all DVR replacements, your recordings do not transfer to the next box. So be caught up first.
Once you have the Genie, you have all the receiver services possible. At this point equipment only raises the bill if you increase the number of TVs you have.
