DirecTV did not cancel Channel 13 ABC.  The corporation that owns Ch 13 pulled its signal from DirecTv. They're demanding more money from us. In the old days TV station owners would allow providers like Dish and DirecTV to continue delivering their signal while negotiations proceeded. Now they're just getting greedy. They know that by pulling their signal folks like you will complain.  I guess they figure we're all just willing to keep paying more and more for stations that fewer and fewer people are watching. I'm glad that providers like Comcast, Dish and DirecTV no longer just roll over and keep paying more. These providers are losing subscribers to streaming services because their prices keep rising, driven primarily by greedy station owner corporations. And the local stations are losing precious advertising dollars.

So what should you do?  Contact the corporation that owns Ch 13. Tell them to turn on their feed while negotiations continue. And ask them why providers like Dish, DirecTV, and Spectrum should pay them anything when they get to use our public airwaves for FREE?!?

In fact in many cases the satellite and cable providers are delivering the signal to places they can't reach via the public airwaves. They should be paying Directv for that, not the other way around.

Local channels are still free over the air (with an antenna) that never changed. Get an antenna and connect it to your Tv and then scan for channels. I get about 40 ota channels.

DirecTV did not cancel your local affiliate 13. This is a negotiation where the channel owner wants to raise costs and DirecTV is trying to keep those costs low. https://tvpromise.att.com/

Yes the channels are still free, you just us a antenna to pick up the free broadcast. DirecTV, and us customers as it affects bills, have to pay for local channel carriage. Because DirecTV (and any other TV provider; Dish, Cox, Comcast, Cableone, etc.) do not own the channels, they have in their terms that channels and programming are subject to change at any time. As long as a single local channel is provided, there is no discount.

DirecTV will have the channel back only when the local affiliate turns the feed back on. So complain to your local affiliate for the higher prices they are requesting and that they took their feed away to use us customers as leverage.

Exactly!  Tell that to the corporation that owns your local station and pulled their signal.
