Where can I find out if a phone number is legitimately from DirecTV? (855-744-1728)

Is there a way to verify with DirecTV if a phone number is associated with DirecTV customer service?

The phone number in question (855-744-1728) was called by me and does answer as if it is DirecTV customer service, along with a live representative, but I can't find it anywhere on the internet, especially on Directv.com.

Can an employee cross-check if it's legit?  I do know they have an 855 number (855-383-6121) as well as 1-800-531-5000 on DirecTV.com.

But I have seen many other phone numbers used as well, such as:

855-383-6121

855-567-1756

855-796-1459

even some with 833 and 888 area codes.

Is there a directory where all the phone numbers associated with DirecTV are listed or can be cross checked?

Thank you from a very concerned customer who hopes they didn't get scammed!

Hello there. We want to establish a great communication with you. That's why we have different channels of communication such as Social Media, DIRECTV official Webpage and voice lines.

Currently, we do not have a directory, but we have those phone numbers in our website (855-383-612, and 1-800-531-5000). If you receive calls from DIRECTV, it can be from any other number. However, be cautious of phone calls, texts, or emails asking for your personal, account, or credit card information. You can find the instructions about how to report any fraud here: https://www.directv.com/support/satellite/article/KM1212535 . Thank you for being part of our family. We will be attentive to help whenever you need it. Gabriel, DIRECTV Community Specialist

DTV customer service rarely calls you, you call them.  Scammers will spoof caller id to show any number they want.

I found the number when I was overwhelmed and in haste on the internet looking for DirecTV customer service,  so I called the number, they didn't call me.

Is there any way of finding out if that number I called is a legitimate DirecTV number?

What department or employee would be able to verify the number?  How can I get in touch with them?  Thank you both for taking the time to help me.

Unfortunately even if the phone number listed is a valid DirecTV number, there is no definitive way to know if that is actually the number that called you. Scammers are good about "spoofing" the caller ID info making it look like they called from a good number when they are really calling from somewhere else.

As DirecTV rarely calls the customer, I would be very cautious. What did they say the call was for?

@juniper, I called them.

I got the phone number while searching the internet for a DirecTV customer service line.  To find out this particular number (855-744-1728) is a legitimate line would put the case to rest.

Would a DirecTV employee calling the line be able to distinguish if it is legitimate?  What kind of questions would they (or any of us) ask to verify?

Finding out if that number you post is legit doesn't mean the call was. The number can be faked. DirecTV historically doesn't call and ask you to verify information as that is done by scammers to get your info.

If the call is about software update, satellite positioning, saying you have technical issues, or that your equipment must be replaced are well known scams right now.

Sometimes you might receive a call about adding a premium pack (free/discounted for 3 months or just full cost) but those are outbound offers by a 3rd party. Not exactly the most honest way they offer, so I would caution agains those to be safe.

What's making you question the legitimacy of the number you called?

Why did you call?

What made you think it's not a legitimate number?

Was something said that was questionable?

@Juniper, I did not receive a call.

I called the number.

There are many other numbers that the company uses than the two main DirecTV customer service lines.

I am wondering if there is a way, in this particular incident, and for DirecTV customers in general, to be able to confirm via DirecTV that an 800 number (844, 855, 888 as well) is an official representative or not.

Please, if there is any employee or supervisor that works for DirecTV, like @DIRECTVhelp , that can look into this or ask a higher up, it would be a great thing to know for future reference to the community, and it would mean the world to me, personally.

Thank you for your insight, because being vigilant about incoming calls is definitely part of smart security practices in regard to phone scams.

Ah sorry, thought you received a call from that number which you then called back.

If it is a legitimate one, it is not publicly listed. Numbers like that tend to be provided by DirecTV when dealing with a specific situation, not for general public use, so are not put in public directories or allowed by agents to confirm outside of the appropriate situations. Otherwise they get people tying up lines that are only for specific use, which messes up the purpose of their phone tree organization.

So unless you are directed by DirecTV to call that number, then I would avoid calling it and use the normal customer support number instead.

The only number you need is 1-800-531-5000.
