Why can I not have a Directv receiver dropped shipped?
So here is my problem; about a month and a half ago I ordered an HR24 receiver to use in my RV. My initial call went smooth and appointment was set. The next day the Tech showed up but did not have the right receiver. The person I spoke too in the phone said she would put it in the notes that it needs to be an HR24. Well that didn't happen, but the tech was very nice and sent out a message to the other Techs in the area to see if they had one on their trucks. about an hour later BINGO and off he went to go pick it up. He returned about 25 minutes later and gave me the receiver and off he went. Now I knew they would not install it in my RV but hey all I have to do is plug it in and run the HDMI to the TV and follow the onscreen instructions. So that is what I did; she fired up downloaded all the info then it came to the screen that said I needed to call the number to activate. All was going to plan and as expected until I called to activate it. They went through the steps but nothing would work. I checked, double checked and tripled checked all the settings; all was good, sat signal all the connections etc. This is when the tech on the phone kept insisting that they schedule for a tech to come out and troubleshoot. I explained to her numerous times that the tech specifically said that they would not install or work inside my RV. Finally she gave me another number to call, great I thought I can hopefully get this working shortly. But when I call the number it was Winnegard!? Well obviously they could not help me. So I called Directv back and would you believe it I got the same person on the line. So we went back and forth again about the tech not being able to work in my RV, she insisted they could. I finally asked for a supervisor but that was no help as he said the same thing they needed to have a tech come look at it. I expressed my disappointment to him and again let him know about the RV issue. Now at this point judging by everything was hooked up right and I had good sat signal I knew it must be a receiver issue. I told them all I needed was a new receiver; after going back and forth he said he would drop ship me a replacement receiver and credit my account $75 for the trouble. Great I thought, it took a bit of time but I felt like they took good care of me. Well guess what never came....yep neither. I did not receive a new receiver nor did I receive a $75 credit to my account. Frustrated!!
Now I waited a reasonable amount of time but after a week and a half of the receiver not showing up I call to find out what is goin on. And to no surprise at all when I called they could not find an order on my account for a new receiver!!! Uggh!!! So now I go through the same issue with this person concerning that it was located in my RV, but she was very friendly and accommodating. She told me a tech would have to come to my house, I told her I didn't want to have to take off work again knowing they would not install it. She told me that she would out a note on my account for the Tech to just leave it at my door. I thought great, again great customer service!! Well the delivery day comes and the tech cals me ahead of the appointment and I let him know that I am not home and to just leave it at my door per the notes in my account. He again was very nice and told me that he could not do that. I explained to him wha they told me on the phone, but he re-interated he could not. He advised me to talk to the retention team.
Well that is what I did today and it could not have gone any worse. After about a 30 min conversation he told me the same thing that they can not ship it to me! Hard to believe. I see so many other people in their RV's with Directv how did they get it! Here is what I could not believe he told me; I asked him what my options where and he told me I would probably need to find another TV provider!!!!!! I was floored that an ATT/Directv employee would say that. So I told him I would do just that, I told him I want to cancel my Directv and without hesitation he said when do you want your service to end! He didn't even try to sway me to stay. This is so sad on all fronts, I want to pay you all extra to have an additional receiver and yet you don't want my money!!! Unbelievable.
So my service is over in the beginning of November. It will be a sad day as I will have to find a way to watch all my NFL, NBA etc. But if they don't care about me then why should I care enough about them to pay my monthly bill. I would rather give my money to a company that at least will try and help me and not sway me to their competition.
In closing I have been a Directv customer on and off since 2001. I say on and off as I had a job that I had to live overseas for years at a time but whenever I come back to the US I would always go back to them.
Well today I found out they do not want me back...sad

older rvs may have the old mpeg2 dishes and receivers which will no longer work soonish

HR24 can use the old and new setups.
King 4100 only receives DirecTV MPEG-2 (SD only). Since April 2019, DirecTV has been shutting down those old MPEG-2 feeds. So the areas your King can work in are dwindling.
At the moment there is only one dish made for RVs that brings in DirecTV's MPEG-4, the Winegard Trav'ler. https://winegard.com/products/satellite-tv/roof-mounted-antennas/travler/directv-swm-slimline-hd-travler
Alternatively you can get a regular slimline dish to put on a sled/tripod mount to aim yourself.
