771-only on second receiver? HELP!

I set up my bedroom HD receiver model H20-100, it was previously activated then I contacted customer service and had them deactivated since we didn't have the same tv in the bedroom and I figured I would stop paying for a receiver I wasn't using ... flash forward to today ... I e-mailed customer service and asked them to reactivate that receiver ... they said they did ... well I got a TV today and hooked it up to said receiver and have re-set it twice and even reactivated here online and it still says it's searching for signal ... which makes no sense when our other receiver downstairs is fine? What am I missing?

Try swapping this "bad" Receiver with one of your good Receivers.  If the problem stays with the "bad" Receiver, you can be pretty sure it's defective.  If the problem stays in its room, then something is wrong with the TV in that room.  Let us know what you find.

Hadn't thought to try that ... I do have the "deactivated" DVR that I am to send back as soon as they send me the return kit for it ... still waiting ... I don't think it's the TV since it's the one we had downstairs in the living room and it was perfectly fine when we took upstairs to the bedroom ... will post results ...

Okay I did that and changed the B-band also ... still the same ... searching for satellite signal 771 ... I really can't believe it's the tv ... wouldn't I get other types of problems if it was the TV?

771 is not the tv, that means the receiver isn't getting a signal. Make sure you're plugging in the coax cable where it says (satellite in). If you've coneected it correctly where the other receiver works fine then it's probably a bad receiver.

Did you actually connect this "bad" Receiver to the satellite cables in the room that's feeding the "good" Receiver?  Are you sure that the satellite cable in this "bad" room is still actually connected to your dish?

I took the new HD DVR to the "bad" room and it's doing the same thing ... so I'm thinking wiring at this point ... I checked the outside wires and their all fine and tight ... I also checked on back of the living room receiver since that's where the line is coming from and going to the bad room ... lol ... and everything is fine there ... so I guess I need a service call at this point?

Note that inasmuch as you are using B Band modules that indicates that you have a standard LNB assembly.  That assembly requires that all coax feeds originate at the dish and run directly to each receiver or DVR (two coax).  Your description suggests the possibility that these are not straight runs.  Are they?  No splitters or shared coax?

What I did was bring down the HD receiver from the bedroom to verify that yes it is reactivated and it is FINE ... so what I did next was hook the line direct from the pole/satellite outside to it and that line is FINE ... so I'm thinking it has to be the coax running from the pole/satellite (it's inside and joined with a barrel connector up to the bedroom ... since the box and the feed worked when coming direct to each other ... it has to be the next part of the cabling which is running to the bedroom ... right?

Good troubleshooting and I agree. There is something wrong with the feed to the room. If you can get at the connections take each apart and inspect for moisture, looseness and a short center conductor.  Oh, and check for critter bites, mice, squirrel, cat?

Would it be worth my time and effort to just get a new coax and switch it out?

if you can run a temp cable thru the window from the dish, hat would help you eliminate the cable as the culprit.

We picked up 50 ft of coax and tomorrow we will run it up to the bedroom and see what happens ... here's to success 🙂

SUCCESS! It was the coax ... weird but we replaced it with a new one and everything is working according to plan ... except now my extra HD package is out? Weird ... guess I need to work on that one now ... lol ... but at least the major stuff is done and working! My kids think I should get a job doing this!
