About SD going away.....
How to know when SD boxes will not work.....was told by chat that
- . HD boxes will work but only until I receive the 3rd letter from the DIRECTV.
- . You will get the notification on your tv screen, that you will losing HD channels.
Have HD, Whole-Home, DVR service, and 4 TV Access Receivers (2 HDs (H25-100 and HR24-500) and 2 SD(D12-100). Want to keep HD receivers and swap HD receivers for SD. Have been told that my HD boxes will not work when SD is gone only genie will work.

Do you have a slimline dish? AFAIK the round dish will still be getting MPEG4 channels from the 101 sat that the H/HR can still use but unknown if SD or HD. Don't know why they are telling you that the H/HR will stop working.

Per the discussion in the other thread, your H25 and HR24 will continue to work. Nothing is shutting them down. Only MPEG-2 which is SD-only is shutting down.
So swapping the D12s for a Genie and Mini Genie Client would be the best setup keeping your other two boxes.
Only if you get the Genie-2 (HS17) would your HD boxes be replaced. This is because the Genie-2 forbids every box but Clients on the account as wasn't built to work with anything else. A horrible design choice in my opinion.

Right. The agent was trying to inform you that your SD local channels are being shut down, and that your two D12 Receivers will no longer be able to view those local channels. The D12s will still receive the regular national channels going forward in SD (channel 100 onward), but access to your local channels on those D12s will end.

If someone is telling OP that their HD boxes will not work, then either that agent doesn't understand anything but the absolute newest option, or is trying to scam an unearned upgrade.

Yup my thought exactly. AS I have said before Directv/ATT customer service is not trustworthy. Why I like to get info in writing but even then, the written word is not always honored by the company.

How to know when SD swap offering has expired? Is this true????
(supervisor) do not worry about it you will get the final reminder on your TV screen, that time you can upgrade your receivers.

I wouldn’t stress too much about the number of the letter. When you notice that your locals on those D12s are no longer appearing, you can at that point request the free swap from the D12s to the Genie receiver and Genie mini as Juniper states. An HS17 receiver is not preferable as that would take away your ability to keep your other HDDVR receivers as the HS17 forbids the activation of HDDVR receivers, it only allows Genie clients to be active.
Therefore, when you call for the free MPEG-2 SD to HD swap, request to receive an HR44 or HR54 receiver for one of your D12s, and a Genie client for the other.

Depends -If you're Getting a HS17 -GENIE -Then You can only have Clients (MINIS) no other receivers. If you get a HR-44 or Hr54 (4k) The you can keep your HD boxes.
Call 1-800-531-5000 and request a Hr-44 (if you don't want or need 4k) or a HR54 -that way you can keep all your HD Boxes and replace the sd boxes with HD receivers.
You can still view SD Channels on any of the GENIES as well as the all the HD receivers.

Correct. You will be charged the Advanced Receiver Fee for the Genie and Genie Mini, though. This includes HD, DVR, and Whole-Home DVR if you aren’t currently paying for them.

That order confirmation you copied looks to be MPEG swap and not upgrade. And only replacing the D12s so you keep your existing capability. Looks like all good to go.
Make sure before the tech starts work that they are replacing only those two boxes and is a regular Genie (HR44 or HR54), not the Genie-2 (HS17). Just to protect against a tech trying to get an on-site upgrade.

Got it. They did offer me the Genie - 2 which I turned down. My 2 HDs are currently in most watched rooms. Thinking of putting the Genie in a easily accessible room andthe mini upstairs. Are the HD best for viewing or the Genie? Is it easy to switch the Genie from one location to another after installed.....I know the HD boxes are .
Thanks.
