Adding another receiver
Can I add a 9th receiver to my direcTV account? Or another Genie? I currently have a Genie 2 and 7(?) clients. What would it take to do it, what would it cost?

the genie 2 can support 8 clients but only seven at one time. To go above that you would have to replace your genie 2 with an HR54, ditch four of your clients (that would then give you 4 TVs) and then add H25 or H24 receivers to get to 8.
What exactly are you trying to do? Do you actually have 8 rooms where you need TV?

DTV only allows 8 receivers on the account AFAIK.
DTV only allows one Genie per account.

Thank you for your response. Yes, I'm actually asking for a client of mine who wants to add another DirecTV client/TV. My guess is it's for the holidays and beyond.Sounds like he's maxed out with the Genie 2 and would need to reconfigure his whole DirecTV set up to make it work. Not really feasible with how his home is cabled up.
Would it be possible to split the incoming satellite signal between the Genie 2 and a HR54, and add more wired or wireless clients onto the HR54? Just a thought, I have no idea if it would work or just cause conflict on the network.

No. He would need a completely separate new account, and pay for it. And then a new separate system.

The Genie-2 (HS17) Headless Server tower doesn't allow any receivers, only Clients.
DirecTV's new account system has a cap of 8 devices, which the Genie-2 counts as. So you are at the maximum devices for the account.
A regular Genie (HR34, HR44, HR54) supports other HDDVR (2 tuners, 500GB recording space) and HD non-DVR receivers (1 tuner, can watch what the HDDVRs have), allowing you to increase tuners and recording space. There is no monthly cost difference between HDDVR, HD non-DVR, and Client as it is $7 for the authorized TV regardless.
Since the setup is maxed out, the only option is to get a 2nd account. Previously on the old system you could have as much as you were willing to pay for (total tuners determined if you had to use a 2nd dish with a separate Whole Home DVR network). Now there is a hard cap. No official reason on why the change, but it is suspected they are trying to prevent commercial users falsely using residential account types.
