Alexa and Genie DVR
Got a message that as of 10/17 Alexa voice will be removed from Direct TV Genie HD DVRs. Does anyone know why this is being done? I have found it useful to use Alexa voice in the past to do such things as change my Genie channel.

Because of our investment in Gemini, Google Voice has a lot more features, set recording, turn on close captioning, pause/FF/rewind, tune to channel and most importantly search on programs. Alexa can only change channels and pause/FF/rewind. We would like to check options for you to enjoy it, let's meet on a DM to continue with assistance. Natalia, DIRECTV Community Specialist

Not sure how to do a DM, but before getting into it let me point out that if by getting a Gemini I would be put back under a 2 year contract / committment I am definitely not interested. Don't want to waste your time or mine if that is a non-starter.

I am not a consultant. DirecTV/AT&T is not my employee in any version. I am another customer on these forums. Those with the "ACE" tag are simply recognized for providing accurate and relevant information for other customers.
I never said you were going to like. What I did do was acknowledge it was their decision regardless of our individual opinions.
Claiming it was a "blind" decision without data would not be fact, as it would be without data itself. Whatever metrics they used for this decision is not shared with us customers.
How much this decision will help or hinder DirecTV, only time will tell. For those it did affect they should now all understand to consider their alternatives if they absolutely need what the Alexa skill provided.
Stating the reality of the situation in a simple and concise manner is not rude. Let us keep this in perspective.

No worries, please go to the Private Message/Direct Message (PM/DM) icon (text/speech bubble) located in the upper right between the notification icon (bell) and "directv.com". Keep in mind you must be logged into your account to have access to it. On a DM, we want to review the best option for you to enjoy the Gemini. `Natalia, DIRECTV Community Specialist

Using Alexa was hands free. Gemini is not hands free. This is the big difference for me. Was able to get 1 Gemini upgrade without a 2 year commitment. I prefer Alexa and the Mini Genie. I still have 1 Genie Mini. No remote near me or can’t find where I left remote — no problem, Alexa change channel. Just my 2 cents which normally doesn’t matter to anyone but me.
