Android Beta?
I know Android is listed as coming soon but I was wondering if there's a beta program. I received my Nomad yesterday and it's working great! I have my series all loaded up for a trip I'm taking soon but would love to be able to try out the Android app.
If there's no beta, has anyone heard of an ETA on the Adroid app delivery? Android is the main reason I purchased the Nomad and it would be good to know more than "Coming Soon"

"We" are not Directv, we are users like yourself. However, we did in fact ask our DTV contact about possible release dates and they informed us that they were not releasing a proposed date at this time. As to beta testing etc. These forums do not deal with any testing, they are for customers helping customers. There are other websites that do deal with this sort of thing. Although well intended, the suggestion falls on deaf ears here.
I'm going to leave it at that. Sometimes folks ask a question and when they don't like the answer a big debate ensues. Litzdog, Peds48 and I have given you folks the word as we know it, and that's all we have.

No , but I am a beta tester for Motorola , ATT and about 6 Android Apps im also a developer , and users in Beta Testing are sworn to secrecy under the terms and conditions to not release secure information about the app , this post is talking about BETA's here not the full actual product ( there is a difference between a full product released direct on website and supplied as a Full version APK ) , we are simply asking are you going to test that application on certain select privileged , knowledgeable , trustworthy customers that know what BETA means , and HELP DirecTV out in the process and its customers ... Unlike Apple users (sorry IOS) but Apple is so closed Minded , and apps hardly get updates because of the red tape to get a product on its market , , If you took time before Reading the user was asking when are we android users getting to test the app to make sure you release a great product and a great app

Yes what is the worth of technical forums for company that are operated by Outsiders with general knowledge of how things operate , but when real questions are asked, about (DIRECTV's Software Related Issues (there is no Internal Support) ) its products it is public informed by its public representation ... that indeed it always Deaf ears exactly .... well get those ears , unplug them and start listening to the users its about to face , if they intend to open into a different market with different users then a good positive aspect for DirectTV ( DCT *not intended directly at you but the Company Known as DirecTV itself ; ) is pull your fingers out of your ears and get someone dedicated to working with its own customers such like Motorola where we have a direct link between management and development and the technical forums , if enough users agree and speak up maybe the company might get off their butts and be a little-bit more energetic in working with its users )

Lol...anyway, thanks for asking.
If any of the "Guides" (what do you guys call yourselves?) talk to Directv folks again about this pass on the fact that many users would love a bit more info on timing of the Android app. I'm active on a Tivo board where the Nomad is being discussed and I know that Android support is a key issue for folks considering getting one.

Our DirecTV contacts are well aware of the desire to have some firmer date commitments. But they won't be forthcoming. I think they've learned their lesson from past premature announcements, so don't expect to hear anything until the apps are released.

That's too bad. Personally, I think they've learned the wrong lesson. Being upfront about release date estimates isn't the problem when (1) the dates are presented properly as estimated targets and (most importantly) (2) customers are provided timely updates with clear information regarding problems and delays.
But it is what it is...thanks again for the help on these boards.
