Buying a 4k genie mini on Ebay

Can you buy one of these and have it activated on your account?  I assume this items was owned by someone else...I don't want to waste money if they can not be activated.

Thanks for any help.

NO! Don't do it. Those eBay are often stolen or still active on someone else's account, and DirecTV will NOT active it. Call DirecTV if you want to add a Mini to your existing equipment .... 1 800 531 5000

Your main Genie must be the 3rd generation (HR54), or the Genie-2 (HS17) Headless Server tower (not suggested).

Compatible 4K TV must be already there for tech to install.

As there is only a couple channels in 4K (plus a few PPVs), the alternative would be an HDDVR (does not get the 4K channels). Unlike a Client it has 2 tuners and 500GB recording space to compliment the Genie, plus each works independently of each other so if one is down (such as power plug accidently pulled out), the other still works. There is no monthly cost difference as is $7 either way. Unless you have the Genie-2 which forbids HDDVRs, a big point on why it is not recommended.
