What model boxes?

Do you have the issue on each one?

What "trouble" is put on the line?

Any changes to your phone line recently?

Any updates to internet if through your phone line (DSL or dial-up)?

Anything like a band stop filter got added between the box and phone outlet?

Box connected to outlet, surge protector, or a "smart" power strip?

Caller ID on TV was discontinued years ago so hasn't received updates in a long time. Phone systems have been updating to where sometimes it is no longer compatible, especially since they move more to Voice over IP (VoIP) type technologies instead of Plain Old Telephone Systems (POTS).

You can try a red button reset or even unplugging power for a minute. If you do the latter, be prepared that it will clear the guide data which can take 24-48hours to fully populate again from the satellite.

Even if that gets it working again, be prepared that it may only be temporary. Starting with the 2nd generation Genie (HR44), which is the last box to have a phone jack, they updated the box software and GUI to remove the options for the Caller ID on TV since it hasn't been supported in many years.

Originally it encouraged customer to be connected as the phone line was used for software updates, ordering PPVs by remote, and anonymous viewing data. Now boxes get their updates from the satellite and the other information is transferred out of internet connected (which gets access to On Demand as well). They no longer put money and resources into a feature that does not support the TV service itself anymore.
