Can I use my older model receiver?
I have a directv director pack receiver. It's still in a sealed box and hasn't been used. The IRD serial number is (Edited as per community guidelines). Is it too old to use or can I use it with a new access card?

I believe that is an old standard definition receiver. DirecTV is no longer activating standard definition receivers of any type. You would have to call in (1 800 531 5000) to add a new receiver if you wanted to add a viewing location.

What is the model number? Do not list Receiver ID (RID) or Serial Number (SN) as those are private and this is a public forum of other customers. The model will let us know if it is too old to begin with (per DirecTV shutting down the outdated MPEG-2/SD-only feeds).
What are the models of your other boxes? This may affect on how it physically connects or if there is something else that may prohibit it from being activated.
However even if the model is fine, the other concern is you ordered a box and left it sitting in package (presumably for years). DirecTV boxes are expected to be activated within a short time. So if it goes too long, their system may no longer recognize an active order for the box.
