Canceled because a Broadcast UPDATE did not arrive in time. (13)
What the heck is this? and what can I do to avoid it? 2 shows canceled recording because of this. Surely it's not because it's recording on another receiver?

Need to see them all. Patterns can provide useful diagnostic information. It's not really that much work.

And yes, someone will diagnose your signals and determine if that is or is not your problem. I assume you're aware that there is a spot in the setup menu under preferences to "hide SD channels" and you should have that set. If it happens to be set to "hide HD channels" that could cause your inability to get the HD channels.

Good, I need to get some yard work done today since it's cooler...Then on to typing the transponders.
BTW, I HAD that set at hide SD, until yesterday when I recognized what was happening, now it is Show all Channels......

if your signal strength screen is not showing the 99 or 103 sats, then its not configure with the proper dish type. you need to repeat the satellite set up process and specify either slimline 3 or 5, depending on the type of dish you have

Press and hold the remote's INFO button for several seconds until the System Information display appears. Scroll down a bit. What "dish type" is shown?

Quote tome from another thread:
76 is a phone line error. Not a big deal. You don't really need a phone connection.
82 means that you've set the dish type to Slimline 5-LNB but you actually have a Slimline 3-LNB dish. Repeat the Satellite Setup and specify the correct dish type. If you're not sure, look closely at the dish .... does it have one or three "hockey pucks" (LNBs)? A 3-LNB Slimline has one LNB assembly while the Slimline 5 has three.
Unquote:====
I went out and looked then, and it had one "hockey puck"...Came in and ran the set up again for a 3-LNB. Did a test and everything was ok, including the phone line, which I connected. This is an oval dish...so a Slimline???? When I got this from you I went in to look at my info, and it says 3-LNB.
1. is it possible I still have the wrong dish even though the test says ok?????
2. is it possible that that CS person last weekend, not only shut down my ppv availability, but my HD channels? I have a HD receiver, pay for HD, but if there is a switch that they could have shut off, and did this to me?

If your dish says "Slimline" on it, then the correct setting should be ....
03: Slimline - 3

Just to reinforce Litzdog's post, the 3-LNB is a SD dish and that's most likely your problem. Reset the dish type to the SL3 that he recommended.
After that you can set the "hide SD channels" back on. You should also show signal strengths for the 99c, 103ca and 103cb satellites if you'd like those analyzed.

You could call DirecTV and request that someone come take care of this for you. The service visit is free if you have their Equipment Protection Plan. Otherwise ~$50.

I had the protection plan, and they didn't seem anxious to help before, so I stopped it. I pay so much a month to them, that I don't have an extra $50. I don't resent what I pay, it is my form of entertainment....as long as I can get it right.
I will change the setting today, and I can cry I spent so much time again to set things to record, I'll have to start over yet again...as long as it is right.
Should I change the dish setting on my regular dvr on my bedroom TV? The TV is not digital, but I went into it yesterday and it still says 16" round dish....this means when THEY set up my new dish a year or so ago to HD (had a HD plain receiver before this HD DVR) they didn't bother to change the setting on my other receiver. I'm sorry, but where is work ethics, and pride in the service people.

Ok, I had to walk out to my well, and I looked at my dish from the back, I can see the writing "Slimline". Sorry I should have waited until light time before saying I couldn't see it. Will get to changing to the correct setting..
Still would like an answer to my other dvr setting.

In my case, I try to follow any instructions to theletter. I am setting up to Slimline3, as opposed to SL3. I usually don't give myself any wiggle room when following others instructions...correct?
