Coax Needed Still?

We are building a new home, but the builder doesn't wire for coax anymore without an extra charge. Standard is just CAT-6 to each TV station.

Does DTV need coax just to the main box? or do I need to wire each room with coax too?

DirecTV's standard install is coax to every TV location. You have the option for wireless Mini Genie Clients, where the main Genie and wireless video bridge (WVB) are on the coax. Wireless is up to 80 feet under ideal conditions. But wired is more reliable per nature of the technology. Also clients, unlike proper receivers, have limitations as they don't have tuners or recording space of their own being extensions of the main box.

DirecTV doesn't require the coax be pre-installed. It is part of their standard installation. Only if there is custom work, or additional things beyond the order, is there an additional charge with tech on site.

Builder will only run ethernet (CAT-6) and nothing else without extra charge? Do they get a kickback from a streaming service or internet service provider (ISP) or something?

What sort of internet service will you have? You might want to consider DirecTV Stream instead of DirecTV Satellite service.
