Connecting a HR 54 to a external soundbar.

I have a HR54 receiver. My Viore tv's speakers are toast. There are no audio outputs for the tv. I have a Bomaker 50w Sound Bar with a aux input. I think the HR54 has a Digital Audio Coaxial output. Is it as simple as getting the right cable? I know this sounds stupid, but I was an Auto Tech for 30 years and we don't assume things.

If your soundbar excepts Digital Audio Coaxial inputs then that is all you need, otherwise you will have to get the composite 10 pin din cable from DTV or buy one online to get the stereo RCA outputs. The picture I saw shows only a Toslink Digital Optical Output.

Thanks shannon02. That's what I thought, doesn't hurt to check. Yes you are correct, I'll need the 10pin din cable.

I went looking for a 10 pin din to 3.5mm stereo cable, don't exist. So i called Directv tech support. Guy says use the usb. My Bomake 50w 16" sound bar has a usb port. I asked if the HR54 usb has audio output. He says yes. I've read on many forums that the HR54 usb port has no function. Again he says yes it functions. I'm going to get a cable and try it. I'll let you know how it turns out.

It will not work.  As stated you need the composite 10 pin din cable to get the RCA stereo red/white audio outputs and the yellow video that you don't connect to anything, then it appears that you then need an RCA to 3.5mm adapter.  No brick and mortar store sells the composite10 pin din cable.
