Control Denon receiver with RC72 remote?

Under settings, remote, program remote, the instructions say to select either AV1 orAV2 on the mode switch to program the remote to control a piece of audio equipment. There is no mode switch on the RC72! How can I program the RC72 volume switch to control a Denon 3310 CI? It is an HR24-500 receiver. All the other functions of the remote work fine, in IR mode. I assume when the HR24 was released the remotes at that time all had the mode switch and that’s why the instructions say that.

Under system info it says software original version Ox412

software oxdae.., Thu 11/17, 5:30a

scheduled upgrade: not scheduled

I was looking in system info to see if there was any software or firmware update. Not that I can tell. Anyone know what to do?

 Thanks!

Usually the HR24 receivers are used with RC66RX remotes. That way, you can program the Soundbar and the TV at the same time. If I recall correctly there is a way to manually program the RC72 with the Soundbar but these instructions would be available on a Genie receiver rather than an HR24.

Additionally, that HR24/500 is NOT on the latest software. As of now mine is on 0xODAE and yours should as well. This won’t play a factor in fixing the issue by ensuring latest software is always important..

 Thanks detuch.

I have plenty of remotes that work but was trying to see if the RC72 would. It does for everything except locking the volume to the Denon. So far. Maybe someone will have an answer. Thanks for responding so quick.

The RC72 is the wrong remote for that DirecTV box. It's designed to program the RC6x remotes.

The RC7X series are the "Genie" remote. They are for the 2nd generation Genie (HR44) and up. The RC6X series, the classic universal remote are for older models like the HR24, including the 1st generation Genie (HR34).

DirecTV no longer focuses on universal remotes, just their basic ones for TV and DirecTV box. But as you have an HR24, the RC72 is the wrong remote.
