DECA or Wireless, Not both...expensive mistake...

So I just had my system installed today, and I found out something interesting.  Even though I have both H24 boxes, which the DECA system works great with, apparently the HR24 HDDVR can only utilize either the DECA or the ethernet jack.  This means that if I want to use ON Demand via my cable internet, I need too connect the DECA to my current home network via a DECA to Ethernet adapter.  I tried using a wireless bridge to jack my HDDVR into my wireless network....nope!

Ok, I get that, don't like it, but tech is tech.

The bad thing is that even though today is the day I got my install, DTV is going to charge me another install fee plus hardware to come out and install this Ethernet to DECA adapter (which I should be able to do myself!).  The lady of the phone was nice enough to credit me the $50 dollar fee of her ordering this for me, the thing is, is that one cannot order the TV Internet Service - COAX online, so I couldn't have ordered it if I wanted too.

I must say, I was really stoked for DTV, looked forward to it for weeks, put off my install just to get the 24's, but this is just a kick between the legs.  I wish DTV would acknowledge the fact that their infrastructure for MRV isn't quite up to snuff yet, and give us post-beta guys a break when it comes to getting the install right ( I mean, by the other posts on this board, it sounds like the techs aren't completely comfortable with this yet).

Well enough ranting, I hope any future customers check these posts out so they know what to look for.

Yeah, this unfortunate, I wish the tech left me a DECA box (is that the white box that I see in photos that people submit?  If I get that can I utilize both technologies?).  I found out by trial and error that the internet On Demand and multi-room cannot work at the same time.

The tech did say that they were trained but he'd never done one before.  They were promised in home equipment as well for their own homes but haven't gotten it.  I wish my tech had some experience before he came by my home.

Crazy.  The installer should have connected the "DECA network cloud" to your home network/internet connection.  You might try calling again and insist that this should have been part of the initial installation, not something you should pay for again.

I did such a thing after going through multiple levels of support.  It was $50 for the install, $25 for the parts, and another $50 because they had to order it for me.  The lady admitted that I shouldn't have to pay $100 of that, but she could only give me a $50 credit on my bill to offset the $50 because i didn't do it myself charge.

Funny thing is, you can't so it yourself, the DECA coax thing isn't available online.

I feel like calling back again though and complaining to customer service (I really hate doing it), but I just spent alot of money and entered into a 2 year high dollar contract only to get screwed within 2 hours of having the service.

I got lucky and the CSR I got totally understood what I was talking about and thanked me for being understanding. He's sending someone out tomorrow and labled it as 'incomplete setup'.

It is unfortunate though that I did take about 4 hours of my day and family time tonight researching.  Big thanks to everyone in this forum for their responses!

Yeah, I don't think I actually have a leg to stand on for an incomplete setup.  Because I ordered my service the week before MVR came out I couldn't actually order the setup, let alone know I had to order a special network pkg.  I was under the impression that I just hooked up my box via CAT5.

It's just a bummer that there wasn't more thought put into how these first few weeks were implemented, I mean, I told my tech I wanted DECA and On Demand.  But when everyone is so inexperienced, mistakes get made, oh well.

DECA adapters are available online: http://www.solidsignal.com/pview.asp?mc=02&p=DECA1MR01&d=DIRECTV-Ethernet-Coax-Adapter-DECA--%28DECA1MR01%29&c=Satellite%20Components&sku=

Also the power inserters required for the one which connects to your router (link is on that page).

This may be cost effective if one only needs one or two adapters.

a connectoin to the op router its not required for a new intall with MRV programing, unless the customers selects the package MRV with internet conection,  then the customer will be charge a small fe of $25.00 for the deca bb.

These are the first posts indicating an additional fee for connecting the cloud to the router. The forum has dozens of posts indicating that the router connection is included in the $99 plus$49 fee, so long as you request it. There should be no reason at all in my opinion why you should have to order the parts and run the coax yourself.  By the way, if a BB module is not available, a DECA module will work.

Really??? That's news to me.  Everything I've seen/read says that connection to the customers internet is part of the WHDVR installation.

Glad to see you can buy the DECA equipment, one thing that is not clear is whether on not a mixed DECA/Cat5 system will work. Right now I have Cat5 direct to 3 of 4 receivers, and the 4th is not even internet compatible. But, this box is upstairs and I was hoping at some point to upgrade it. I am hoping that either an H24 or another box with a DECA adapter, along with a DECA adapter into the router will work in tandem with the 3 hard wired receivers (with the added power supply and filter of course). This would save me from buying 3 additonal DECA adapters. Any chance?

when the Whole-Home_DVR when national, I kept seeing work orders without the line item for the broadband DECA (i know that the DECA BB its not out yet, so we are using the regular DECA 's for now, but no matyter what you use the work orders reads Broadband Deca) so I went online pretending I was a new customer buying DTV, and in the proceess there is a place where you choose internet connection and that adds $25.00 to your order, which btw ahs to be paid in advanced.  also i try to convinced a customer that get MRV to gett the internet option so I meet my return path requierment, and it doing so they have to  pay $25.00 to DTV to add the internet option.  at htey end they end up with on demand, tv apps DTV to PC, and most important I meet my return path metric.

dcd, as i stated above, there are two kinds of MRV packages,

1. MRV with internet connection

2. MRV without internet connection

if a DTV customer wants number one then they will have to pay the small fee of 25.00 to have installed.  I never mentioned that the customer would have to buy the deca for self install.  the thing is that as we all know internet its not require for MRV or WHD, therefore the internet connection is extra and as such a billable item. so IMHO, the tech who installed the op ystem was right at not installing the router connection. (as long as the work order did not called for such)
