DECA Switches
I have whole House DVR. I have 5 boxes total. 2= HD DVR's,one is the HR24 and the other works in conjunction with it, and 3=Regular boxes.
I would like to have the ON Demand working. How many DECA switches do I need for this to work? Do I need a DECA switch at every box? Will 1 DECA do all boxes? Can I get On Demand on the regular boxes? Do I need filters?
The sales agent I set up my service with, seemed to have missed this important detail. Now I have to do this after the fact.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thank You for your input!

you need one deca hooked to a rg6 attached to you D* system (Swim Spliter) and the cat 5 jumper from that deca connected to your Switch or router and your set.

If you had Whole Home DVR service installed by Directv in the last 90 days, connecting the system to your router and the Internet should have been included at no additional charge. If longer, you can still ask, but if you have to pay, the installation is the same regardless.
I would call Directv and ask that they send someone to complete the job. The equipment requirements are simple. A coax is run to your router where a BB adapter will connect to the coax and a short Ethernet jumper will connect the BB adapter to your router. That will network all of the HD boxes, and allow downloading from Cinemaplus (on demand) to the HD DVR's.
Not added hardware is required on any of the DVR's or receivers.

Once again, conflicting answers!
gl1800----Should that have been done at install without paying for the equipment? Installer said I did not order it, but sales said it came standard with Direct TV.
dcd------Should this be remedied with no money spent on my end.
To me, On Demand should be standard by all Providers!

Yes, they should have provided that internet connection kit as part of the original installation. Call back and politely request it for free.

As suggested call back in and request that it be installed-the installer may not have had one to install so that is why it wasn't installed first time (they D*) owe you to install it at no futher expense to you.
Enjoy your service

Alright, NO DEAL! I was sent a DECA switch with no power supply, but I have the black box thats supposed to be a power supply for it.
My install did not include an SWM, is that correct?
None of your schematics or diagrams match up with my home installation.
My installer was a true, ^%&hole!
Any suggestions?

Your basic mistake was to accept them sending you a part for self install rather than insisting that they send a tech to complete the job. If you are going to accept the self install, here is the device you need. Wireless Cinema Connection Kit part #DCAW1R0-01. It includes some wires, a power supply and an install manual.
A DECA module will not act as a wireless connection to your router and if you were to hard wire it, the power supply for a DECA is not black, pic of DECA PS attached.

I'm not trying to go wireless! I have a hard line! Where would the power supply plug into if I did have one?

Into the end of the DECA via a coax connector. Are you sure you know how to connect this stuff? If you are going to use a DECA adapter, you'll need a splitter in the coax line to which to connect the DECA, the aforementioned power supply and a Ethernet cable from the DECA to your router. Here is a schematic of how it must be connected. If connected otherwise, it won't work.
I still believe you need to get Directv to send a installer to complete your job properly. This stuff must be connected just so or it won't work.

If your install does not match the diagrams it is possible you have a legacy install instead of a SWM, whole home dvr only works with SWM. If you look at your dish on the outside of the house and there is more than one rg6 line coming out of the dish it is legacy. Which means an installer is going to have to convert your install to SWM before you can hook everything up.
