Direct cinema wireless

Ok,I am a new customerand I have a HD DVR, I also have a Netgear wireless router. Do I HAVE to have the direct cinema connection kit, Ehthernet cable. or is there some way to go wireless through me own router?

How many receivers and what models do you have? If you have only the Hr22 you can connect it using a wireless game adapter (attach it first to your router to config it) then attach it to the top port of the HR22 and then test (from the receiver) if you can connect to the internet.

If you are using whole home service-then I would suggest the connection kit as your best choice, as your internet traffic would travel over your RG6 connection back to your router.

The Connection kit should be included in the upgrade to Whole connected home. You can ask the installer or call for a status update to make sure it is included.

Then you won't need anything else to connect all your HDDVR's to the internet. Let us know how it goes.

ok, so I call to check the status. Why in the world does one person say one thing and when I talk to another person , they say something different..The first person I talked to said when the installer comes put to give me another HD DVR that he would make sure that the whole house DVR would be working as well as the direct cinema via the internet with me wireless router< when i called to check the status< she said that i would have to make ANOTHER appointment and then pay for the installation AND the whole house DVR connection !!!

No, you do not HAVE to get the kit, but believe me you'll be happy you accepted it.  As of Jan. 1st, Directv decided to include the hard wired kit free as part of all Whole Home installs because the knew what a benefit it was over wireless.

so are you saying that I have to have an Ethernet cable going from my router to my DVR?

The DECA signal travels over coax, so the connection does not have to be at your DVR, it can be anywhere within the signal coax "tree".   I assume there is already one cable of some sort feeding your router so another shouldn't be to big a deal.  I'm attaching a schematic showing how the signals flow.  As I stated earlier, this is voluntary on your part but I've tested the wired versus wireless and there are definite advantages to the wired.

ok, Thanks for all your help. Deos that work with the HR22 DVR as well? Here is what is going to happen today when the installer comes out..

1) put a HD DVR in my bedroom.

2) make sure the whole house DVR is in working order.

3) either hard wire or wireless connection for Direct cinema.

I see that you are saying that to hard wire the DVR is a lot better, but I dont want to have a wire from my router to the DVR so im going to try the wireless first.

The system works with all HD receivers and HD DVR's except the H20.  Don't be surprised if the installer tells you that if you want wireless it's a doi yourself situation.  The wireless kit that Directv sells is easy to install and works good.

ok, so here is the scoop. The installers came out and hardwired for the direct cinema but I cant see if it is going to work for 24 hours. They said I could have it hardwired or wireless, it would be totally up to me, so I chose hardwired only because of what dcd said about it. and now I see what you were talking about. you do not have a wire going from your router to your dvr. Thanks a lot for all of your input, suggestions, and guidelines.

You're welcome.  When the 24 hours is up go to channel 1239 in the guide and download a music concert.  You can time it so you'll get an idea as to how much advanced planning you'll need.  Watch the progress bar on the "list".  It will turn from red to yellow to green.  Green means you can start watching now.
