I upgraded to the new h25 receiver and I want to know if I can still use my old 18 inch dish at my cabin on weekends

@Ksamens directvhelp is incorrect, and they often have no clue. You WILL need a SWM compatible dish and the 18 inch dish will NOT work because it only gets the SD satellite 101 and is non-SWM. So, yes, you will NEED a new dish with a SWM LNB. In total, you will need a power inserter for the new dish, the new dish itself, and the SWM LNB.

While earlier model receivers could be used with non-SWM dishes like the 18 inch, the H25 only supports newer setups with the SWM LNB.

So I won’t need a swim switch or anything I just have to select the 18 inch dish like with my old receiver

Just as @detuch254  said the DirecTV community specialist is COMPLETELY wrong and everything he said is correct.

@DIRECTVhelp , Karen, again please educate yourself an 18" dish will NOT work with swm only receivers (Genie, h25) an 18" dish is NON-SWM Standard definition only an h25 is SWM ONLY

The 18" round is the outdated dish for MPEG-2 days. DirecTV has been shutting those down. Also it will NOT work with all receivers. The H25 is SWM-only, like all Genies, so cannot use the old dish at all even before the shutdown.

Sorry but @DIRECTVhelp (Karen) was incorrect in this case.

What are the models of every box you have? Where did you get the H25?

Thank you @detuch254 for the information. That is correct. @Ksamens it will be necessary to acquire a LNB model that include/numbers start with 3DS , 3D1 or 3D2, with any of those you will enjoy the full programing with your new H25 receiver. Any other question, please let us know. Thank you.

Here is a complete set from Solid Signal that should be easily set up to replace the 18 inch dish you have at your place.

https://www.solidsignal.com/DIRECTV-SlimLine-3-SWM-LNB-Satellite-Dish-with-Stub-Mount-Kit-SL3T-SWM

DO take note that this set for $65 does not include the power inserter and that it is a STUB MOUNT meant for a roof.

here is the power inserter on Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005AME7Y8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_5G0RFCDGDBG2F8QEQ1J8?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

YOU SHOULD be able to reuse the coaxial cable used by the 18 inch dish as long as it is RG6 quad shield cable or if it was satisfactory for your previous receiver setup. If there are ANY SPLITTERS in the setup, they must be replaced with SWM splitters.
