Directv Cat5 Ethernet Connections.

I have 2 hr20-700 receivers a hr21-700 and a h21 hd reciever. I have them all connected with a cat5 ethenet through my internet and router switch, I ahve been getting flawless mrv playback in all rooms and am verry happy with the hd picture quality in all rooms through mrv playback. My question is will directv cut off the ethernet setup and dissable my setup if and when they do a full roll out of there new deca system they are testing? Or will i be safe with my setup just with no technical support through directv? Thanks for anyone that responds.

1. No. You will be able to continue to use your ethernet cables for MRV, as long as you pay the $3/mo.

2. You will not get technical support from DirecTV unless you have DECA networking.

Until it happens, no one outside DirecTV is sure when or how the transition will take place. It seems likely that at the very least they will cut off the beta to everyone at some point and start charging a fee for MRV no matter how you're connected. Whether they will permit anyone without DECA to opt in at that point is still up in the air in my opinion.

I'm with Sungam re the up in the air. All of the written words I've seen indicate that MRV and DECA will be a single opt in. A lot of folks surmise that Directv won't enforce what they've told us thus far, but I'm not so sure. Lest anyone forget, here is a quote from the sticky post. The few posts we've seen from the pilot areas were all DECA based.
" When this goes into public release, there will be specific network requirements that are not currently available."

im confused.

according to sungam and dcd, though based on their opinion, it's still DTV's discretion, which we don't know yet, if they will allow other system set-up other than DECA if MRV goes public by May.

But it seems like litzdog911 is saying that customer's existing and future set-up other than DECA is ok, as long as they pay $3/mo MRV fee and they won't get technical support from DTV.

That's what I've heard. But nothing is final yet.

But if you think about it, what you've heard is the best (or logical) decision DTV will make regarding MRV.

Actually, I'm not a techie person so it's like I'm a sponge, absorbing information from this forum. I really enjoy reading the posts here and this really helps me and my job. Thanks a lot!

As to existing networks. We've tried to get a firm grip on whether existing networks will be allowed with the MRV feature. Common sense seems to indicate that Directv would allow them but not support them. Unfortunately we haven't seen any written concrete indication that that is indeed the case. Consequently I personally am reluctant to tell anyone that their existing network is okay. Stay tuned I guess, we'll know soon enough.

There is one more factor to consider. It appears that Directv has set a fee for activating MRV at $99 for materials and $49 for labor. Apparently this is a fixed price no matter how much or how little equipment/work is required. If that be the case in the long run, anyone would be foolish to not lat them bring your network and equipment up to 100% snuff.

The gurus on all of the other Directv forums on the net agree as well.

Just a dumb observation.
Since DECA cloud is also connected to the users home network for Internet access, what
stops co-mingling of the two networks? Worst case is that something on the users network
goes wonky and starts flooding it with bogus packets, which also then flood into the DECA net.

What would ever actually cause that happen? I've been testing DECA for several months now and never had any "co-mingling" issues with the rest of my home network.

If the DECA adapter is connected to a router or ethernet switch, only packets addressed to devices which are part of the DECA cloud will be sent from the switch port which is connected to the DECA. Connecting the DECA adapter to a hub or wireless adapter would not provide this isolation.

Like I said, just a dumb question, and the answer was as expected. I just needed to confirm.

A user posted yesterday that he is in the pilot area and part of their installation is a DECA router connected to the SWM cloud via coax. What a sweet deal. No more day after day troubleshooting who knows what kind of network devices. They are upgrading his DVR's etc, all for the base price.

That was me. I am expecting the installer today between 4 ~ 8pm.
I was to receive a replacement HR20 on Saturday, but had this changed
to be part of today's visit. I did ask about having a HR24 installed to round out the
MRV/DECA system, but as expected was told that there was no control over this.
It was suggested by the 'CSR' that since I was getting a MRV install too ask
the installer if he had one in the truck since I am in the 'pilot' area. The E-Mail
confirmation I received has this: "Multi-Room HD DVR Upgrade w/ Internet Connection"
so there might be a small chance of one in the truck.
