Directv Equip Return - Confused?

Cancelled my Directv service - it ended yesterday - I have 3 receivers, all are several years old. The email I received about returning equipment states: "A box with a pre-paid label to return your equipment is on its way. As soon as it arrives, make sure you pack and return the equipment listed below immediately to avoid non‑return charges:

Make: DIRECTV
Model: H24-100
Make: DIRECTV
Model: HR24-100
Make: DIRECTV
Model: HR44-500

"

I received one small return box from FedEx, which specifically mentions just the H24-100. The box asks for the receiver, the power cord, and the remote control, with the instructions to return to the United States Postal Service (USPS) or arrange for postal pickup.

So my question is - what about the "HR24-100" and "HR44-500". No mention of them in the return box I received (which is only big enough for one receiver anyway), and no additional instructions provided by Directv/At&t about returning the other two receivers (to FedEx or UPS ship store).

Talking or chatting with anyone from At&t for clarification on what to do about the other two receivers has been useless.

Anyone with a definitive answer?

Thanks!

Apparently the 2nd generation Genie (HR44) was made non-returnable about a year ago. As for HR24 it was still returnable as of last April, but that may have changed since. They are moving forward with SWM-only equipment.

You could try their current return process. Otherwise just hold onto the boxes for a couple months to be sure you aren't charged a non-return fee (NRF).

How To Return The Equipment

Go to a FedEx or UPS location with your account #. No need to bring a box or label, the equipment will be boxed it up & shipped out at no charge. The process takes less than 5 minutes.

Thanks for the feedback. I guess I'll keep the HR24 & HR44 for awhile to see what happens.

I wish they were more clear and consistent with their policies.

Too many agents do not (or don't know how to) lookup the returnable equipment list. A bigger issue now with the additional outsourcing I believe.

If you do end up recycling them, just make sure to remove the access cards first and dispose of them securely like you would a credit card.

Personally I wish they would have accepted them back as would better support their MPEG swap program for those who have outdated equipment that needs replacing. Plus the HR24 is the last regular HDDVR made and of course provides more capability than a Client.
