Directv Equipment Upgrade

I'm wanting to upgrade my equipment to the most recent version. I would also like to use more than 3 TV's.

This is the list of equipment I currently have:

Genie Gen 3, Model HR54-200

4 ea Wireless Genie Mini, Model C41W-500

Wireless Video Bridge, Model WVB2R0-34

Thank you for your assistance

The only upgrade available to you would be replacing the HR54 Genie receiver with a headless HS17 receiver, and four Genie client receivers. This would cause you to lose all of your recordings on the HR54, should you choose to use this route. Otherwise, you can simply add an additional Genie client to your account.

Route 1;

HR54 - stays the same

C41W - can be upgraded to C61W receiver or Gemini (C71KW) receiver

Wireless Video Bridge

(2) Additional Genie clients (wired:C61/C71KW Gemini, wireless:C61W/C71KW Gemini)

Route 2:

HR54 - upgraded to HS17 receiver (HS17 does not count toward a TV)

C41W - can be upgraded to C61W receiver or Gemini (C71KW) receiver

Wireless Video Bridge not needed with HS17 receiver

(3) Additional Genie clients (wired:C61/C71KW Gemini, wireless:C61W/C71KW Gemini)

Hi @Jemth we appreciate your interest in upgrading your equipment. We can upgrade your main receiver to Genie 2, and you can add up to 6 Gemini devices. Check DIRECTV Gemini | Our Best TV Experience At No Extra Cost to learn more about the exciting Gemini device features. Let us know once you decide. Thanks for choosing DIRECTV.

@Jemth

Normally most recent/newest is no necessarily better, but in your case it would be an improvement and fix an inherent issue with your current setup.

Previously I would have suggested replace 1 of your wireless Mini Genies with a HDDVR (wired only). However, those seem to be no longer available leaving you with 1 option.

Upgrade your Genie (HR54) to the Genie-2 (HS17). It does not go on a TV so order should provide a Mini Genie. This Headless Server design allows up to 7 TVs to be in use at 1 time, as it does not reserve any tuners to itself as is not a regular HDDVR box to go on a TV. That would resolve your issue with only 4 TVs at most (Genie and 3 Clients). Accordingly there is no Picture in Picture as each Client can only use 1 tuner.

Genie-2 has a WVB built-in which you can use with the external you already have depending on your coverage needs.

The recordings from your current box will not transfer to the replacement so be comfortably caught up first. And boxes no longer have an eSATA port which means external hard drives can not be used with the newest equipment.
