Directv Genie 2 HS17

If I want to subscribe to Directv and I want 4K mini genies. Can somebody explain how the HS17 works. I leave in an apartment with 4 (4K) TVs. Will all the receivers be mini’s?  How much wiring will there be inside the apartment

The HS17 Genie Server does not actually connect to any TVs. The server feeds signals to Genie Mini Clients. The only Mini Clients that support 4K channels are the C61K model. This model requires satellite coax cable connected via Single Wire Multiswitch setup with the HS17 and satellite dish. There are wireless Mini models, but they don't support 4K channels.

Thanks for the information Sir. So regardless they still need to install wires for both C61K models. What will be the cost for HS17 with two C61K mini clients and two HD Mini clients.

Yes, they'll need coax cables installed.

I don't know the cost. If you're a new customer there may be some sweet promotion deals for you. Call DirecTV at the number below.

Hello @roland456 we want you to enjoy the best of our technology.

HS17 (Genie 2) provides signal to Genie Mini (C61K) devices. It receives, records and distributes 4K content as long as you have 4K TVs.

Do you currently have a satellite account? I'll be happy to answer your questions about the cost of obtaining this equipment.

@litzdog911 Thanks for commenting, we appreciate your helpful contributions.

Genie-2 (HS17) is a Headless Server Tower. Only allows clients, forbidding any kind of receiver/HDDVR. The tower sits by itself, not connected to a TV, and feeds a single tuner to each client.

Only two 4K clients (C61K) at most can use a 4K channel at a time. There are very few 4K channels. This does not prevent others from watching other non-4K channels.

You have 7 tuners and 2TB recording space to share between all 4 TVs for what you are watching and recording.

If the new co-owner brings back full receivers, I suggest a Genie and 3 regular HDDVRs and not worry about 4K (unless they have come out with 4K DVRs in the future). That would be more capability, plus you don't have to worry about all TVs going down if the main box has an issue since they are full receivers, not clients.
