DirecTV Receiver

We recently had to replace our receiver.  I was surprised to learn that all the movies/tv shows that I had recorded did not transfer to the new receiver.  Is there any way to get those back?

Yep, that’s the major downside of replacing a receiver. There is no way to transfer recordings from one DVR to another. The only way to get them back is to re-record.

Thank you. That is what I figured. Live and learn. The items I had on there really needed to be weeded out anyway. It was just a shock to see all of it gone.

Unfortunately DirecTV has never had the option to transfer recordings to another DVR. That includes if you were using an external hard drive with the DVR.

For this reason for anyone who has, or is planning to upgrade to a Genie, to not replace any HDDVRs with Mini Genie Clients (or if they have Clients, to use upgrades to replace with HDDVRs). That way you don't have all your recordings in a single location (all eggs in one basket as it were). More reliability and capability, yet no difference in monthly cost.

Thank you. Our receiver had been working just fine, until this past Wednesday, when it suddenly quit and smoke started coming out the back! I will keep your upgrade suggestions in mind. But, hopefully this one will be with us for a while.

Thank you. Our receiver suddenly quit three days ago, and smoke began pouring out. We figured it was time to replace it. They sent us the Mini Genie. I will keep your suggestions in mind about the upgrade.
