DIRECTV Satellite Dish on Roof
I'm being told by customer support that it's my responsibility to remove the satellite dish from my roof myself and throw it away in the garbage. Is that correct!

If you remove the dish yourself, you should leave the mount plate to avoid leaks. The dish can be recycled.

The dish is metal so it should be recycled and the LNB taken to an ewaste center. Best to leave the mounting plate attached to the roof to prevent leaks.

Thanks for letting me know this. I find it odd that ATT doesn't want their equipment, but, I'll take it off and dispose of it.
Thanks everyone for the feedback and comments.

Once installed you own everything except the receiver/client boxes. So the dish being yours has always been the case for DirecTV, regardless of AT&T acquiring them.
If you choose to reconnect service, the dish is already there. If you move, it is more enticing to keep service if there is a dish already in place, or if you don't have a provider then that is encouraged as well.
So if you do choose to remove the dish, leave the mounting plate to avoid leaks. Main part of dish goes with metal recycling, but the LNB (the "eye") goes with electronics.

I was so upset that Directv/Att does not have the resources to remove their equipment.I never thought that it is ours.Think about it.Who wants this after,it is not in use anymore. We have to pay to have somebody to remove it .Att /Directv does not have any service that you could pay to do it ,you have to find somebody toremove it.It is another headache added to your burden of multiple things you have to do. It is an eyesore, destroys your roof. They did not even tell us the repercussions after we disconnect this thing. We as customers must really ask this questions before installing anything.falling into a trap .we are so happy to get it at once .Then this happens. It is not helping us customers.

Asking questions and reading the paperwork is always suggested. The concept of owned equipment with satellite providers has been in place for years (almost 30 years for DirecTV). As mentioned months ago in this thread it is left to make it easier for people to reconnect/connect and to avoid any potential damage with attempted removal.
As for being an eyesore, that makes no sense. Shouldn't be afraid to see technology. And if you are looking at your house so long that it is an eyesore perhaps go do something else with that time.
