DirecTV Volume changing on its own

Hi all.  I have a strange issue with my DirecTV service that just started recently.  I think it occurred around the time of the software update to my receiver.

Behavior:

When navigating the Guide, Menu, or changing channels the volume will also change.  The volume seems to change based on the last action taken.  So for example if I lowered the volume initially, then navigate the guide using the Channel buttons the volume will continue to go down until it reaches zero.  The opposite happens if I had raised the volume initially.

Equipment:

  • Genie 2
  • 4K Genie Mini, Model C61K-700
  • Samsung UN46D6000 TV
  • Denon AVR-E300 Receiver (using HDMI ARC)

None of my equipment has changed in years.

Troubleshooting (didn't resolve issue):

  1. I've rebooted & reset everything
  2. I've removed and re-paired the remote
  3. I've tried a different remote

"Fix":

I found that if I turn off HDMI Control on the DirecTV receiver (Settings -> Display) the issue is fixed.  The problem is that I want to use HDMI Control for switching between inputs (Roku box, etc.) on the TV.

Has anyone ever seen this behavior before?  If so do you have any ideas on a long term fix?

When they send you a DM/PM a text box icon appears at the top of the page near the bell icon when you are logged in or you can use one of DTVs social media websites to contact DTVhelp.
