Do I need a new Directv Receiver for my new TV?
I just purchased a 2011 Sony Bravia (XBR-55HX929), but I can’t help but feel that that HD picture could be better (HD Channels, like HBO, seem slightly pixelated and washed out.) I currently have a HR22-100 HD-DVR hooked up to it, but what I am wondering is if I upgrade to a newer model will I have better results.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.
Note:
I’ve adjusted settings (both box and TV) and rotated HDMI 1.4 cable with no change.

how close are you sitting from the TV? for a 55 in TV is recommended at least 12 to 15 ft. the biggest mistake people make when buying TV's, is they think the bigger the better. this is not true for smaller rooms.

The model of receiver makes no difference of the quality of the HD.
Exactly how is your receiver connected to your TV? HDMI is recommended. Also, pressing the "format" button on the upper left on the DirecTV remote will cycle through the receiver's resolutions. 1081i/xx is the best. (The xx is the format for non-HD channels. Pillar box, stretch, etc. Choose your preference). edit: just saw your note at the bottom of the OP.
Agreeing with peds48... See if standing further away (outside through a window or down the hall if you need to) will make it clearer.

Thank you for the feedback. I sit at least 12 feet, probably 14 most of the time.

How are you adjusting the TV's settings? A quality Video Calibration DVD can help a lot, or even professional ISF calibration service.
Also, check out HDNet on Ch306. They have the best quality 1080i HD video. Be sure that the DVR's front panel 1080i light is on.

The box is connected directly to the TV set using a hdmi cable(1.4). The box is set to 1080i (original format), I did try pillar box but I didn't see a change.
I adjust the video settings on the TV manually. I will look into calibration.
Thank you all

This may sound obvious, but you may not be viewing the HD feed of the channels you're watching. Go to: Menu/Parental, Fav's & Setup/System Setup/Display/Preferences and under "Guide HD channels" select "Hide SD duplicates." Additionally, you may have to update your favorites lists after doing this to make sure the HD channels are selected.
