Do Not Use DirecTv if you live in Florida!!!
Wow, DirecTv is terrible if you live in Florida.... Even light rain storms cause the dish to lose the satellite. I guess most people who live up north do not know what we call light rain to them it must be like a major storm. 1-2 inches an hour is considered a little rain storm.
Before people say post your signals... On nice days they are at least 95 or it has to be a bad connection...... The tech was here on Saturday and checked the complete wiring, everything is correct and in good condition. He then stated that this is normal for Florida to lose the sat when it starts to rain. It happens at his house too... and the sales team either lie or do not know about how often you will lose signal.
If it was not for NFL sunday ticket I would have stayed with FIOS.
Sorry for the rant, just want to warn people in Florida on what to expect with DirecTV.

If it was such a common problem in Florida I would expect to the vast majority of "searching for satellite" posts to come from Florida. But that's not the case. I think something else is amiss with your dish, LNB or cabling that's causing reception loss during light rainfall. I live in Seattle where it rains a lot and very rarely have any weather-related reception issues. And my signals are "only" in the high 80s.

I have sympathy for floridarv, and also just point out to litzdog that the signal attenuation in heavy storms in Florida (and here in Texas where I am) is significantly higher than anything he gets in Seattle. There are rainfall models for all areas of the world that are used by the satellite communications people, and attenuation in the U.S. is highest in certain parts of Florida and Texas, because the rain density at the center of the storm is much higher there. None the less, litzdog is correct when he points out that strong signals with a well-aligned dish can make a big difference. The signal loss on HD is much greater than on SD, so floridarv what are your signals on 99c/103ca/103cb?

You may also try from the remote--menu- setup-system setup-display---(select) Preferences - Change the (guide HD channels) to show all channels- that way when you have heavy rain you can change the channel to the sd version (EXAMPLE) HGTV is 229HD & 229SD- You will loose your HD channels first when a storm is direct over head you may also loose your sd but you will be able to watch during heavy rain.
IF your receiver is set to Hide SD duplicates-then when you loose the hd channels you have nothing. (As to your Rant)
Should that be a fix please let us know --your signals are GREAT--for the HD sats. that means your SD numbers (101) should be as good or better.

Maybe. The signals he posted are almost identical to mine and are just about as good as they get. Here in DFW I lose HD signal whenever there is a significant storm (red on the weather radar) between me and the satellite, which means a few times a month during storm season. I don't lose SD channels very often.

10-4 on that-with new customers -many do not know they have sd duplicates they can fall back on.

I have tried looking at the sd channels when 771, no luck. All of signal levels go to zero. I will see if the SD come back quicker next time.

South Florida and rain, every afternoon. Of course during NFL football season. There is 3 minutes left, the packer have the ball 85 yard from the winning score, then rain. If it not the last of the game it's during the game and Sunday ticket is not cheap. It usually goes away by Super Bowl time.
i wish it was an equipment problem, I am almost ready to do radio only.

I wish I had thought about frequent inclement weather in Florida when ever it rains 771 Signal loss comes up. I have to pay for the full month no credit period. Direct TV in Florida is not worth having please do not subscribe to Direct TV.

It doesn't matter if you live in Florida or Seattle. I'm in Seattle where it also rains a lot. I only lose satellite reception in the heaviest downpours, and then only for a few minutes.
If you're losing reception in light rain, then something is wrong with your installation .... dish misaligned, exterior coax cable connection that's wet or corroded, etc.
